At Sea Replentishment

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Playing v1.6, US, scenario 15, 9/43. I have my Guam invasion force at sea, just off Eniwetok. In the same hex I have 2 AOs. For some reason, I cannot get the invasion force TFs to replentish at sea. Both AOs are loaded to capacity. Ideas, anyone? Thanks, Hugh Browne

Do the ships in your invasion TF have their Ops points? If they don't, no replenishment.

Hi
I assume the two AOs are in a Replenishment TF.

That was going to be my next question, but I'm in doubt as to whether or not it matters.

If in a Transport TF, I would think that it expects to offload fuel in a port rather re-fuel ships.

I've never actually tried it, so I don't know...

Yes, but the "do not unload" is greyed out. When I try to refuel, the AOs have the "cancel un loading " in grey & I cannot change them. I've tried TKs but same thing happens. HB

Hbrsvl, you mentioned that the date is 9/43. Is this the first time in the game that you're getting difficulty in refueling? Or is this the first time you've tried to refuel?

I am in April 42 as US in Standard scenario 15. I have used about 5 different AO in replenishment TF's to refuel several differnt types of TF's , the only problem I have is trying to refuel the AO itself from another Replenishment TF's ( and it seems any escorts assigned to the AO wont refuel except from their own AO, but that might be wrong, havent really checked it)

Also dont forget, any Replenishment TF that refuels anyone uses its own Ops points. Not sure what the ops use is based on ( shipd refueled or just task forces) And 2 Replenishment TFs in same hex sometimes make for weird results. But generally I have no problem ( I have an AVD withDD escort at French Frigate Schoals and 2 Replenishment TFs, the AVD TF sailed off once when it was low on fuel, the AO keep that from happening) And yes the avd task force and the replenishemnt tf's use fuel while assigned to the dot hex of french Frigate Schoals.

Just a note for others, if a dot or base are at port level zero in a previous version of WitP Fuel would NOT offload from TK or AO to base. Supply will slowly. Havent tried Fuel from an Ak ( stored in drums) So at zero port bases or dots I dont even bother sending fuel.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Try assigning the AOs to follow the TF you wish to refuel. That might help.

IIRC I have not managed to get AOs to refuel from other AOs. I think i've noticed them refuel themselves from their own cargo tanks when they go into the 'RED'. Seems a strange function of the game - but what's new!!![:D]

First time I've had difficulty. I think I now know the problem. I was trying to refuel an AP TF, that had traveled only 250-350 miles. I tried refueling a DD TF and they DIDE refuel. Sorry to have caused all the furor. HB

If you only have 2 AOs I believe that is your problem. The AOs only have so many op points themselves (not only the fueling ship uses them, but the source of supply as well). Most likely your AOs fueled 4 or so ships and ran out of op points. Next turn will probaby reful some more.
