45 trainers were built for piolets to familerise themselfs with the type, Francillion also says they were suposidely very manuaverable, as some of the reports of their actions would indicate.

Well...If the math shows they had a resionable hit percentage, which it aparently does, then wouldent that be reality? I mean of those relased withen the operational range of the weapon a fair number hit or did damage to ships.
Not necessarily.....as Tironu wisely mentioned more than once...statistics (or "Math") can often be the greatest liars. My own conservatism on this subject stems from the fact that essentially all suicide type weapons are basically desperation weapons, resorted too because conventional attacks are no longer feasible. I just cant think that such a weapon, fast not as easily controlled as a dedicated airship(plane) would be a more accurate delivery system in the hands of a newbie pilot wannabe vs a conventional attack by a well trained pilot. Technically the same argument could be made in favor of the Kamakaze itself......in a way it should be "easier" for a pilot to steer his plane into a ship vs trying to deliver a bomb in either a glide bombing or dive bombing situation...harder still to launch a torpedo successfully which took great skill and nerve....yet in reality the Kamakaze concept while it did cause great damage through sheer numbers, did not prove to be a solution that would save Japan.
But to give your viewpoint it's proper due....there is the argument of dumb weapons vs smart weapons of which the Okha can be considered roughly....very roughly a "smart bomb" of sorts.
To be honest i do remain concerned that the Okha actually "works" in the game. We never saw a hit during testing but it was allegedly fixed at the same time K's were.
Time will tell i suppose
RE: Kamikazes, some questions
I do beleave their top sepad was around 400 mph, not that fast realy. But I see your point, and I have yet to see their efects in game, nore have I personaly done any testing, I just have questions based on testing done by others, namely subchaser.
I can see why one would not want to over model kamakasies, but a reacuring them in WiTP is to short Japan in just about anyway one would to think of meashuring her, this is certainly a broad statemnt and easly refuted specificaly, but true enough on the whole to merit mentioning, though obvious...
Still unresolved are:
Why is their production set a 9 per month? (or is it?).
Why are Kamakise planes like the Zeros limitd to 60KG bombs as noted in the above example offered up by Subchaser.
Are baka atacks launced from withen the same hex as parent aircraft? That is does the parent aircraft aproach and atack in the same hex as the target or an adjacent hex?

Build rate 0: Above 9 is mentioned, by Frage I beleave it was in the tread I saw, he mentioned it was not adjustable by players, Why is it so low?
Pool- acording to my referance by Jan 45 when the become available their were already at least 300 built.

I dont know, but if they can hit fast nimble DDs, they cant be that hard to steer.

From Above:
"One crossed over the port side and then looped over and crash-dived into West Virginia"
This is in keeping with other acounts of them nimbly flying around the ships seaking targets, their small size made them hard targets but their are acounts of them being hit by flack.

RE: Kamikazes, some questions
Hi all,
Is that 9 a month from game start?
Also, how do you activate them? As in is it in a weapon slot for the G4M2e OR do they only work when a TF is 1 hex away sand you have to select 'Okha attack' or something like that?
Regards,
Steven

Maybe in an odd way, this is one facet of the game where they intend you to expand to get 100 per month if you want. If that were the case then surely a note in a readme is necessary.

RE: Kamikazes, some questions
Hi
The Okha is the payload of the G4M2e aircraft only.
IIRC, the bomb needs to be produced. But I can't find where on a screen it shows you the number currently produced/pooled.
The theory is that the number of attacks that can be made is the number of bombs produced.
Nik/Mog may be able to give more light to this. I had enough trouble just getting them flying during testing.[:D]

Maybe because Japan has to expand the factory before turning them out in large numbers? Or do you expect a whole factory magically popping up?
In the game they're available in January 1945, first combat use was March 21, 1945 (and first hits scored April 1).

I do recall back in PacWar days, with hundreds of playing hours under my belt, i only ever recalled one or two Okha's hitting a target......one for sure because it scored a six * critical hit on an Essex class carrier and sank it. Still remember that turn to this day clearly.
But it only ever happened once.
Slightly OT and late-coming, but in my current PacWar PBEM game I have kept a Betty group with 80+ exp out of the war on purpose for later use as Okha carriers - on their first Okha mission they sank a KGV-class BB and several CLs [8D]. Admittedly CAP was weak over the enemy TF and the three groups of A6M2 flying escort took care of it, I doubt that it would have worked against a decent USN carrier TF. Nevertheless, the blow for the RN smells sweet, even more so because my opponent is British [:D].

you can not expand the factory, it does not show up in the industry window of tokyo. This factory only appears in the info window of total production (i.e. under the info button).

Did the Japanese immediately use the 700+ they produced? How many were actually used in action?

Hi Michael and thanks.
Interesting.
So they are only available from 01/01/45. What if for example the G4M2e was available sooner?[;)]
Only a minor point in the grand scheme of things but i've always wondered about these things and if and how they worked.

Steven
