Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Oleg Mastruko

OK Mog is back after couple days and we continue our game - that's about the biggest piece of news for this report...

And you call yourself a professional newsman... [8D]

I am not a "newsman" and would never be one. I am journalist, and "journalist" can mean many things. In my case it means being the guy who comments on stuff long after it actually happened [:D]

As this is a no limit game transfer all US Bomber Gps starting on the West Coast to India via Russia and China.

Unless Soviets are activated - you can't (they get "interned" in USSR if you fly there).

I just tested it in Scen 10, the early 45 scenario. I flew a Ventura sqdn from Attu to Petropavlosk. The next turn I was allowed to move it further.

Odd. About 2 days ago, someone posted that once his planes flew into the USSR, they were stuck. If i ever get any spare planes, i might have to try this...

Do supplies flow from USSR into China??

Thanks for all your comments guys. This is my first serious game as Allies in WITP, not to mention first "all is allowed" game. I am still confused as to what HQs are restriced, where and why, where I can land my planes etc. Short range of most Allied aircraft models is incredibly frustrating!

I expect him to open the attack on Russia with hundereds of Sallys striking Soviet airfields, so I moved VVS (Soviet airforce) outside Sally range. I even moved some squadrons outside USSR - it can be done, they are still unavailable for combat duty, though. I seriously hope I didn't screw up anything here, and that Soviet squardons based outside USSR will become available for full combat duty once their homeland is attacked?

If Russia falls I plan to use them Yaks and LaGGs in India or sumtin' [:D][:D]

Have the Soviets been activated in this game??? (if so, Mogami is apparently still not playing the "meanest" Japanese game).

In my (standard scen 15) game, i can not move Soviet units - only mission available is training. This discrepancy might account for the ability of some people to move units through the USSR.

Interesting... i'll have to check that out, but i THOUGHT that i can not move anything for the Soviets (and i remember looking more than once, but perhaps i looked at units off the railroad).

Thanx for the tip!!

I think all air units in Soviet bases can move bases freely as can other allied air units passing through on the way to China although in ordinary games I wouldnt use this route this is a no holds barred game....

Something to watch for is that the the Soviets even after activation is a restricted command so if rescuing fragments to India is the plan to rebuild from the massive soviet replacements be aware it will cost PP's as will rebasing air units.

If Mogs plan is to crush SU and march on India a Corps of rebuilding SU Ground Units and air forces could be very valuable in India save those PP's to rescue all the units you can ;)

p.s. If you are sure he is going for India I would probably be tempted to send the first few Seabee units and some cheap arty regiments from West Coast to India via Capetown to help build forts and defend the frontiers.

And as this is a no holds barred game if he isnt going for West Coast a cheap expedient could be to transfer one of the static coastal defence forts via the same route to provide additional security for Karachi !!!

It wont move from Karachi but additional 15" guns could put a real dent in any attempted end run at Karachi !!!!

Okay, time for another update. Game date is only just 25th Dec, Mogami had some problems with his PC, then he bought a new one, then had to reinstall, then we mailed back and forth to get in sync but now we're fine and we should get back to speed.

Frankly for the time being I think that "other" lunatic thread (Mog vs Tom Hunter) is much more interesting read than this one:

a) they went further than me and Mog in our game
b) that game is more eventful, as Tom constantly counterattacks and challenges Mog here and there (I will do the same, but not just yet)
c) that thread is "Mog free" so Tom is free to dicsuss his thoughts and strategies in length.

I won't discuss my strategies here because Mog reads this thread (which I am fine with, I want him to read and post here).

OK, latest developments... huge fleets seen approaching Midway from NW and NE. Onslaught in DEI continues, he is clearing last remaining bases of any significance. In last turn he finally attacked Surabaja, and took it (predictable, it was defended by less than half starting Java forces and frankly I don't know why took this long, since he had 1,5 division worth of troops in Kragen on turn 1).

Do post you January 1st 1942 intel screen when you get that far. I started a thread, Nomads and mine are both there now.

I did not read the rest of your thread, that was part of my deal with Mogami, but I just wanted to make sure the comparisons were all up on the intel screen thread. Good luck, and I look forward to your score when you hit January 1.

Game date is 30th Dec. Large movements observed in DEI but no real effect. He's regrouping to invade some other place, I guess Malaya.

Midway invasion remains a mystery. 4-5 days ago I observed two forces, converging on Midway from NE and NW, coming closer the next day... I evacuated my aircraft from the atoll (Midway is an atoll so he'd go into auto shock attack, possibly destroying my aircraft on the ground which I wanted to avoid).

But invasion didn't come for couple days. Not even a bombardment. Perhaps it was some weird feint operation but for the time being I can't even say whether it worked or not [:D] Perhaps those forces were not going for Midway at all?
