RE: Carriers hit!
I had worn them down in previous raids I think.
That was a decent result for the first time in a long while I suspect that TF at least will withdraw to Kendari now.
I was more surprised by the land combat and very impressed at the Aussie and Marine fighting qualities.....

Well, it goes to show the importance of pulling your forces back for some rest once in a while. Good shooting!

As todays turn showed. The main body of KB, after resting a bit at Kendari, was back at Koepang and I lost only 8 zeroes vs 26 P 38's. A total of 52 enemy planes was shot down today, plus another 40 or so destroyed on the field at Ledo airfield in Burma. A nice surprise raid by IJAAF.
Also my ASW scored by sinking SS Lamp.. was it Lamp? near Taiwan. My 90+ exp Ida crews are also dynamite and score 1-2 hits on allied subs every day.

RE: Carriers hit!
Aye those ASW planes are very very nasty a Sub campaign around Japan is difficult with them there
RE: Carriers hit!
OK this makes it a little easier to bear I suspect none of the carriers hit will sink but they will need some yard time.
His mini KB will now be a lil depleted for a few months (although I am sure the pilots will go train somewhere and come back better) which may increase the opportunity for me to launch Operation Sledgehammer especially as KB was sighted at Timor placing all of the IJN CV's in or around Timor.
Although Triphammer has been a failure so far the IJN has at least been nudged and nudged hard.
The most worrying loss for me is the 26 ish DD's I lost as on review I am not at present overloaded with this class of ship and they do not respawn.
Jackhammer proceeds nicely and should hit its objectives soon.
I am revisiting the plan for the major attack for 43

RE: Carriers hit!
I stongly suspect that Jackhammer has been spotted a few days ago.... i.e. he has recoonned it several times
I have committed <censored> men in <censored> divisions to an assault accross the Jungle trails towards Burma.
Operation Jackhammer is GO !!!!!
It will take <censored> days for them to get onto the rail net but when they do then we shall see how good the Japanese really are...... no poxy carriers or battleships to go wrong this time !!!!

RE: Carriers hit!
Quite right corrected now I had mixed em up !!!!
RE: Carriers hit!
This next turn could be very very painfull for me I may have just sent my Bomber force into a trap........
RE: Carriers hit!
OK no trap only about 50 fighters rose to contest the air as I sent in over 200 mediums and heavies escorted by P38's Beauf's and P40N's.
My Beaufighters took yet another beating I hate to say it but I think they will need to be retired I was using them as a stopgap LR Fighter Escort a role that they just are not suited for.
They will retire from front line service and go practice barge killing somewhere out of the way.
I have withdrawn three sqns in the hope they will return as Beauforts.
To some extent I would actually prefer to have the abiltiy to switch between types.
In another mystery it is apparent that I only get 90 P40N's a month I could have sworn I got 150 but 90 is all I get.
In about four months I get TBolts to upgrade my Hurricanes at that point I will have lots of LR Escorts in all theatres.
My Landing force on Timor is holding out quite well IJA is getting 2:1's and 1:1's this wont be sufficient as I never managed to take the base it will need more that 2:1 to force surrender add to that the pummeling I am giving supply on the island 13 supply hits last turn thats what 13% of all supplies destroyed in one raid not that shabby.
As milord Blackadder would say I have a cunning plan for Celebes Sea if it comes off I will emerge victorious.
And if it doesnt I will just revert to attrition and take out the IJN one chunk at a time !!!!!
I now have 3 CV's/ 3 CVL's so my air fleet is back in business look out IJN !!!!!
And the Iowa's are not that far away plus this month I get a few Brooklyn class CL's which think are respawns so I am recovering from the Canton Disaster.

RE: Carriers hit!
Ouch walked into a buzzsaw half my fighters didnt fly and my bombers got mauled probably by LRCAP Zeroes off of CV's
Just noticed something else my LRB on High level Minelaying are being ignored by CAP.
CAP just doesnt engage is this right I dont want to exploit a bug but MLing by air is important to me anyone know if this is correct ?

Indeed.. I was very surprised at the level of flak. But i did set them to to fly at 1000 feet so that explains some.

Ki-21s at 1,000 fts?! Well...you can destroy those paper bombers even spitting at them...at 1k ft they would be mauled by infantry light guns...

I've done that before, but only against chinese units, which don't sport much in the way of AA. Should have known better..
The mining issue is annoying, considering that a DD and PG swept about a dozen of them with their own hulls and sank.
In other news, I've started mopping up those chinese units that I left in the countriside near Chungking (for training my aircrews) as both Chungking and Kunming are in range of allied heavies.

RE: Carriers hit!
No one know whether Air Mining is legal ?
Im just concerned about inability of CAP to intercept im avoiding using my heavies for further mining till I kmow one way or the other !!!!

RE: Carriers hit!
I would consider it a bug but something that you can work around with a house rule.. perhaps limit it to certain squadrons? Or maybe only one air mining raid per, say, 3 days?
RE: Carriers hit!
Aye thank Alik its just so weird that CAP doesnt attack my minelaying raids if its a bug I guess Ill need to stop it permanently which is annoying i suspect house rules just wont work for something like this.
I will discuss with String offline and see

Quiet few turns while I rest some forces.
Morale is shot among my bomber crews and 12th Army has hit a difficult patch in the mountains and jungles of northern burma but they are a coming !!!!!
I imported 500 cases of beer for the bomber boys at Derby they are sleeping off the hangovers now.

I'm having trouble getting 2:1 at Koepang. Something has to be done.. but I've yet to figure out what.
