I'd like to give Puresim another try

Post by elmerlee »

However-

The last time I got into it and the last time any of my questions were answered I found there were no ratings or stats for situational stats.Lefty-righty,runners in scoring pos,Home-Away,rtc.

I just can't get into a "sim" that ignores these things.Tell me I'm wrong and these things are in the new version and I'll be there in a minute.I've gotten tired of OOTP.

Tracks lefty and rightie, but not home and away (or at least I can't find it).

elmerlee, are you referring to a team's home and away record or a pitcher's?

Just in case you're referring to the team's record, PureSim does in fact deliver this info. Simply, go to the Team Management screen and you'll find an option on the left hand side named "Expanded Team Results". Select this and at the very top you will find the team's Overall record, as well as their Home and Away. Further down it even goes into detail showing your record against specific teams, by month, in games based on run/score differential and even depending on the day's temperature!!

If you're referring to a pitcher's home-away record, then I don't BELIEVE there's a way to see it. Unless you go to into the player's profile and select Game Log. There you will see the pitcher's results PER GAME. It would take some math and some work on your part, but you should be able to devise their W-L record based on where the game took place.

elmerlee - PureSim doesn't "ignore" the concepts, there is a definite and noticeable lefty/righty effect, and it differs for different players, e.g., you may have a left-handed batter who is almost equally good against either type of pitcher, and you may have a switch-hitter who shows a definite preference for facing right-handers, or so. There is a measurable home field advantage, though I don't think its done player-by-player - not sure.

Each at-bat is tracked, and therefore it should be possible to get any combination of circumstances you want: how does this guy bat against left-handed pitchers in the 8th or 9th innings of home games on Saturday or Sundy? Not that you'd WANT that, but it could. The UI doesn't surface most of these DB queries, but it should be plausible for anyone to write a plug-in that gets the information they're looking for. I think it does surface avg. vs. lefty and vs righty for hitters, and AvgAgainst vs lefty and righty for pitchers, by default. 'With RISP' and 'home-away' are not surfaced.

Once each season is complete, the game 'flattens' the data to save space and processing power: in other words, you won't be able to get 'situational' stats for your hitter from four years ago, and 'career' situational splits are missing.

Thanks for the replies guys - thats pretty much what I expected.

With the box scores I COULD easily write that plug-in but then again I could write my own game too.

As regards home/away, there is also the Park Factor.

All of the above is available. First of all there is a comprehensive report available from the team screen that gives what you are looking for Screen shot

Also, regarding the autoplay lineup issue, most of the time injuries and fatigue are the catalyst for the lineup getting shuffled. This can be totally mitigated by the "player usage" settings option accessible from the player card. You have a number of options that will give you fine-grained control over the lineup if you are auto-simming games. Screen shot

The tracking of those and other important player stats could be done easily via an add-on to PureSim, the writing of which really wouldn't be even a fraction as difficult as writing your own game. :)
