I still can't see MT's picture in the opening post, but I recall that the Japanese converted some light cruisers into special operations ships. A couple mine layers, a Kaitan carrier, a landing craft mother ship. Is it any one of those?

Correct! It's OF Ouragan under Polish flag and with Polish crew. All Polish ships received prefix ORP (Okret Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej - Polish Republic Ship), even those which were only leased from Royal Navy.

This one was a sole exception. It was French ship, taken over by Brits, and then temporarily given to Polish Navy. While in Polish Navy it had a unique prefix OF (Okret Francuski - French Ship).

I read the complete background when I found the Ouragan, I believe it said it means Hurricane. Is that the proper translation into english?

Hmm I don't know French either, but...

French ouragan sounds simillar to Polish huragan which actually means a hurricane.

Department of Defence contractor (otherwise known as a D@$# Civilian), working on a Naval Air Station, using (DoD) computers for Internet surfing when I am at work. I am under contract to fix out of warranty desktop computers that are used to run an old piece of software, and I have nothing to do when nothing is broke. Good work when you can find it.
