Battleground Series here we come again!

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

Battleground Series here we come again!

This is great news! cant wait!

Its been 10 years since the first BG game, and I lovingly remember playing them all, both Napoleonics and ACW.

I for one would be happy to shell out even for just minor improvements..

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere but how will these differ from the HPS titles?

That is indeed the question. I guess we can assume they will look prettier (as the original versions already do) but play worse; I think there's a certain amount of nostalgia going on here. That said, somebody was saying they preferred the Battleground engine to the HPS one, so I guess there's plenty of room for both, especially if Matrix put out bundles (one ACW, one Napoleonic?) for the price of one HPS title. I'd be very surprised if any significant improvements are made beyond those necessary for full XP compatibility, but who knows?

It would have to go beyond XP Compatability for me to buy it would have to cover New battles new periods. Because I already have all the games and the only computer I run XP on is the one I use for my media stuff. That said I do prefer BG to HPS though I buy HPS for PBEM. So Yeah there should be room for both. Specialy given that any one who has not played either is probably going to pop for BG on looks alone.

I was on line looking for a copy of Bull Run: Take Command 1861 and I noticed that several copies of the BG series were available at prices ranging from $75 - $120 for what I assumed was a set of scenarios. If a ten year old used software program can command that price, Matrix may have made a very wise decision in picking up the BG line, especially if Tiller agrees to update the series.

If HPS met everyone's needs then perhaps there would not be any demand for a revamped BG, apparently that is not the case.

... especially if Tiller agrees to update the series.

That would seem very unlikely, as he would essentially be in competition with himself. Without knowing the man, I suspect also that his response might be something on the lines of "update them? What the heck do you think I've been doing for the last five years!" [;)]

EDIT: LOFLMAO !! Well, I certainly called that one wrong !
