I am trying something cunning it probably wont work if String has been careless this could be a very painfull turn for his Carrier Air...

Alternatively if I have miscalculated this could be very very painfull for me...

It all hinges on the range of IJN CV borne strike aircraft.....

I am placing two of my Carriers in harms way to test this out I just hope String has left his stike aircraft at range 5 and all those zeroes at 90% CAP :) if so it could be a very very understrength escort that walks into over 100 top line allied fighters alternatively my LR CAP could fail again and he has set it to 40% CAP and I lose another fleet......

Well, the weather fouled it for you this time, but be happy, I knew that you had carriers in the area.

It was a one shot deal but I am almost glad it didnt work the risk was enormous for what would have been a relatively low return...

I must have been mad to even attempt it !!!

Things are only quiet because half the IJN is at Timor plus over 200 fighhters plus KB I only have 2 Gps of P38's and they were worn to the bone.

Inside Range 5 where I have Boomerangs, Corsairs, Wildcats, P40's and my main ship killers you wont come equally my heavies if unescorted into that kind of fighter cover would get massacred and then LR Betties from Kendari would crucify me while my attempts at LR CAP would fail what else can I do ?

I have safely escorted my cripples to Sydney and the 1st batch are almost at West Coast

I have delayed Sledgehammer and am re prepping troops for it now

Its a Mexican standoff the only prob is I have 30,000 men trapped on Timor !!!!!

Highlight of the day. I had hoped that he would disband some of his more valuable ships into port but sadly no. A PG and DM sank by the evening. Yes, 137 oscars lost is bad, but on the other hand they did their job well, my bombers got in almost intact and I also suffered very few losses to my zeroes. They aren't good for much else anyway.

On a second though i should have set my planes all on naval attack, but then the strikes would have come in separated most probably and then it would have been much worse..

How you managed to launch that many aircraft from a lvl 4 AF is beyond me 800+ raid very nice !!!

AF is at 10 damage Port is at 12 and my fighter pilots are at 80 xp.

The Boomerang pilots wanted to know if they could have a second helping of oscars please.

(Timing was impeccable actually I had placed all P38's and P40 N's on 0 cap to escort a large raid of my own at range 6 as I thought a surface TF or KB might be visiting so my CAP was actually quite low)

Nice Raid !!!

Actually the more I think about it the more amazed I become 800 aircraft from a lvl 4 AF.

I am amazed it let you launch that many.

My Fighter pilots did ok though.

17 F4U's were shot down thats quite a lot lost.

Bloody Hell that was a large raid !!!

Post by Andy Mac »

Its a real pity although few aircraft were destroyed on the ground a LOT were damaged so I could afford to launch an immediate counterstrike and I am sure you have moved them away by now......

The thought of 270 betties is a fair detterant to offensive action though.......especially when added to KB.

I think Operation Triphammer will officially be ended I was going to try again and force a way through but 200+ betties plus KB when none of my fighters can LRCAP Koepang is just to much suiciide even for me !!!!

So thanks for the warning you saved me a number of fleets that I will now use for operation SLEDGEHAMMER !!!!!

ps until that raid hit home I was going to attempt to fight another convoy through with 5 Fresh BB's and 3 Fleet CV's plus Force Y RN CA's I wont bother now because I would have lost the lot !!!!

So thank you once again I have developed a new plan now !!!!

Ha !!! Third time ill be the charm...

In realtiy the speed of response and sacrifice of Musashi won you this one...

I still cannot believe the performance of my Modern Surface Gp in trying to sink her it was very very weak !!! I still am disbelieving that it was an old RN class BB (admittedly with good xp) that finally took her out where 4 modern US BB's failed.....

However I will be back and those marines and Aussies are dug in and well supplied and I hope will take some shifting

I landed a decent blow at Kendari..

180 heavies at 6000 feet lost about 30 on the raid not really sustainable but probably worth it to clog up IJN repair yards...

Allied propaganda is exaggerating the claims. Barely 30 ships suffered any real damage and of warships only CL Kashii, an old training cruiser was severly damaged.
