I have TOAW ELITE edition, but, it won't work on XP, works fine on Win98, was wondering if there would be a patch for this to work on XP???

I think it's unlikely effort will be spent on old versions. acow is XP compatable, might require the nocd patch first.

I don't know if this works on any other version than CoW, but have you tried to switch the compat. mode to Win 2000? You might want to search the forums as SZO for this issue, as I know it's come up several times before.

If you have a large amount of RAM, you might also try running the program under VDMSound

I think the idea is get people to buy the re-releases of the Talonsoft games, not start providing support for the old versions.

I mentioned something similar in regard to the Campaign series, and in fairness David Heath does have a point - you can't expect Matrix to devote resources to projects that yield zero income.

When you do the search on SZO, you'll also note the standard response that comes pat with any reply to the question :What should I do?

Answer - Buy the latest version! [:D] In this case, that would be to wait until the release of Matrix TOAW!

I also have the same problem. Currently I will be keeping my eye open for some TOAW hacks and cd cracks. I was told a rumour that a CD crack MAY get it to work on XP. This would prevent the "This is not an NT compatible CD" error.

I can install TOAW on XP, but that's as far as it can get. All my older pentiums don't work anymore so using an older box isnt an option for me.

Try VDMSound. Runs all legacy software (and other progs that won't work) smoothly on XP so long as the RAM is available.

I'm using an 'old' no-cd vbs file in xp pro, works fine for me......

Could email it to you, if you so desire.

Mention whether it should be .zip or .rar, eh?

(MANTIS: is this sort of thing ok here? I've got that old 'gun-sight-pointing-at-my-head' feeling.......)

ALSO; you might mention whether your running pro or home ver of XP.......

"Elite version"...? Who sold that? I would of thought that I'd heard of it, here to for..........

Truth be told, I'm not 100% certain. I know at SZO we support the No CD file for TOAW CoW, which is the most recent TOAW. (There was some kind of thing - maybe that the game had been dropped? - that made it safe for us to do so, legally speaking, iirc). Knowing that, I would *guess* that you're alright, but I would suggest that you don't post the file here. If anyone needs to, I'm sure they can PM you.

The elite edition was the original TOAW, with a bunch of expansion packs included IIRC.
