Saxony Flip - Flop

Post by Hakkapeliitta »

Tried to form a protectorate / coup Saxony in my last capaign as Sweden, subsidized her every turn, had diplomat working his charm there, Saxony's attitude towards me >= 500, had 3/4 of attitude indicator "ball". Didn't see other major's diplomats there. And BAM!, out of the blue Russia gets Saxony as protectorate! A Coup? MegaSubsidization? What Gives? No explanation as why the sudden turn of coat in the turn summary...

If I remember correctly other players have had similar experiences with influencing the minors?

Exactly how much can you influence a mionor nations attitude with money per turn, 100%?

It could be simply that you weren't able to protect Saxony. If a nation attacks a minor power, then it looks for protectors who are able to go to war with the nation that's attacking it, prefering those nations with the highest attitudes, but also factoring in a number of other considerations such as the relative power of the nations and the relative attitudes of the nations involved. If you have the highest attitude with Saxony but are unable to go to war with the nation that's attacking it, then Saxony won't bother asking you to protect it.

Thank you for the answer.

Didn't notice anyone attacking Saxony, I'm still quite new to the game, so it might got past me...

How important is the physical distance between minor and influencing major, when determining who they ask for protection? Is there sense in trying to influence middle - european minors as Sweden, for example? How do aspects (military power, minor's attitude towards you, distance between nations) "rank" when determining who will be asked to be the protector?

This has always been the way it goes with the protectorates. I've had Saxony completely swayed to me color-ball wise but become a protectorate of somebody else. Heck, it happens with all of the nations I'm trying to get as protectorates all of the time. Portugal and Denmark get DOW'd all of the time, but rarely the German minors.

But, all of a sudden one will go to a country then it's like dominos...they almost all go to whichever country got the first one. Like they're impressed with Spain or something...go figure.

This is one of the more annoying habits of the game...to choose a protector who is hundreds of miles away separated by powerfull nations.

I reckon it's just programmed to pi55 you off so you'll go to war and suddenly find yourself in the "badboy" position....and then at war with everyone.

I don't know, I have reported this since verison 1, Eric and Raliegh still say it is working right, I think it is broke

there are no other diplos, no war, no enemies

I see it 2 or 3 times a game, but at least, I normally have Tallyrand in the area to cause them to break away from who ever just took them and then my level is still close to what it was, and I Can start over again
