Opportunity fire

Post by toddtreadway »

What would be the game implications of allowing op-fire by aircraft not only when a unit moves sea zone to sea zone, but also land zone to land zone or land to sea, etc.?

Comments?

I'm with you, todd, in theory anyway. If there is a lacking feature in WaW, it is the op fire mechanism. I realize the inherent feature is there, but it seems to not work consistently with all the possibly elligible combat units. Perhaps this is a mistaken assumption on my part.

To me the feature should effectively represent a player's ability to limit the opponent's access to certain areas with the deployment of his own combat units.

There obviously should be some randomizing of the combat potential as enemy detection in WW2 was not 100% foolproof, even large formations of ships/men/airfleets could avoid disclosure.

I'm trying the Germans and invading Scotland was cool. Yet the fighters in England just watch you fly around the coast from France to Scotland.

Maybe have a 'radar' unit?[&:]

I'm a newbie at W@W, but I'm having the hardest time never knowing whats going on with op fire.

One game I managed to get the WA into finland courtesy of a german failed invasion of norway.

I was doing all these heavy bombing runs of poland etc however it seemed the russians were opfiring on me???

Could fly over german places ok but don't go near lenningrad???

Stalin might have been a jerk, but??

Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet?

I also think it went for no reason when I went from norway to denmark over the skaggeterak. [don't know how to spell it]

There was arty at the start of the turn but I bombed them went to land on vacant coast and got the warning?
