If we went to v1.7 beta, is a clean reinstall needed prior to the v1.7b version out soon. Or is there some other reason ?

It's up now. The problem was only partly fixed this morning, it turned out. Now fully fixed as of 11PM and v1.72 Beta has been posted.

It was mentioned in the 1.72 announcment that the game will try and move misplaced fragments to the proper spot and will use SF if it can not.
