Complete rebuild ?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Complete rebuild ?

Post by Raverdave »

Is this going to be a complete rebuild or mutton dressed up as lamb? Having never played BTR or BoB I am looking forward to this if in fact it is going to be a rebuild (complete with updated graphics......get some of the guys from the WiTP board to help with the icons and the maps).

I think all we can do is guess right now, so that is not a good idea

but if it is going to be just updated, instead of a completely new game engine

hopefully all the work JC did can be added

his lastest map (lol guess you have not seen how many map sections there are) and loc are pretty good, and if it is useably, shouldn't really need much of a update

the plane units, either if used on the map or just in the detail pages, these need to be updated
(in case you don't know, you can have plane Icons, which kind of look like the plane types on the map, or you can go with incomeing/outgoing boxes and lines, the boxes are normally much better for real gameplay)

some of the work done for WitP would be Prefect for this (but I think the pattern is different and each plane would have to be redone, instead of a sheet of planes)

they did some outstanding work (I really wish I had that kind of skill)

Yes I agree with Sarge.

At present we need to wait until Martrix announce what they plan to do. There is a lot of potential for a complete re-vamp or tweaks along the lines of the great work that JC did. I truly mean great work to.

Raver if you haven't seen what he has done you would be amazed [;)]

This has great potential.

I don't think a complete rebuild would be necessary. I bought and played the original BoB -- struck me as potentially good but not quite finished. I remember in particular the mind-numbing routine of plotting virtually the same recon missions over and over and over...what was obviously needed was a way of saving the last turn's recon missions so that you could just modify them as necessary. Finishing the game in this sense alone would make for a significantly improved product.

So what you mean is like the last days' raid would automatically copy to the next days, and if you didn't want some of them you could delete them? Of course deleting some of them might be just as large a hassle. Better yet, have folders where you have certain lineups. Like in folder A is your coastal attack lineup, in folder B you recon lineup, in folder C your strategic bomber lineup. Such an idea might not be possible though when you consider that you're probably very frequently deciding on different groups to send on the same mission, since you're certainly not sending the same groups all the time, unless, you might have teams. Like folder A might have two different groups of FG's for coastal attack. Day1 you might pick the first set of groups (a raid) and the next day the other set of groups and so on. Maybe each time you would draw up the whole group, and instead of adding groups to the raid as is currently done, you would add them all and delete the ones you didn't want to fly, therefore narrowing down the routine somewhat. IOW, the ability to form groups into a dormant raid, would allow you to ignore that raid whose turn it was not to fly, instead of having to go through the entire air force every time. One problem I can see though, is for some people it would be too tempting to start intermingling FG's from other raids into a given raid because a lot of it's groups were too exhausted even after waiting it's full time in the rotation.

I hope I've made sense.

Some form of recon automation or abstraction would be nice. I am currently playing my first PBEM BTR with Speedy. I find the recon plotting to be the most tedious aspect of the game and often skip much of it even though i know its vital to have this intel. I also have trouble tracking what i've rec'd day by day. Only way to know is to move your cursor over the recently targeted base.

Hmmmm
not sure about those keys ?

as you see, that was just after a raid day on hitting some V-Sites

was thinking maybe it was only highlighting, targets that were not damaged/knocked out, but one I hit that day is at 44 and not highlighted

not sure

Thx Sarge.

Yes on the action report screen its fairly easy to track each mission and it's location on the map. Once you get to the mission plot phase however, one has to reply on the off map target list screen as posted above.

I'd like to see a means to highlight it on the map since one cant have both UI's active at the same time. (perhaps another improvement idea)

if I following

have you tried, once you click on bombing missions

you get to pick the target you want

down in the center of the screen, is list targets, you can click on that, to bring up all the target lists, then click on the area you want and the info on the targets of that type come up

the background map will just show that target type, and damage levels ?

plus while in that screen, you can click on target, and it will lock that as your target, then you can adjust the path and start adding bombers and alt and what not

I've been mainly using the map to choose targets. Can you click on the list to choose the target and will the map go to the target in question?

I should probably mention by way of explanation too that one reason i've been relying on the map so much is because for some reason, my laptop does not display the fonts correctly making them thick, blocky and almost unreadable. [&:]

I presume you are running Win XP on your laptop.

Create a shortcut for the game. Open the propertys of the shortcut. (right click the shortcut, bottom selection in menu) Click the compatability tab. Under Input settings (toward the bottom) put a check in the box for "Turn off advanced text services for this program. That should fix your text problem.

Yes, you can use it for "recon" to figure what areas to bomb and or what else is in the area you are headed to for aother raid

don't know about using a Laptop, hope the other hint helps

its for anyone....including Speedy who i described the problem too a while ago. For some reason my laptop distorts the text and numerals from a fine, easy ledgible display to the blocky dark nightmares seen above. I only recognize the number "3" because it looks like a cursive "9" while and actual number nine appears as a blocky version of itself. Text is even harder to read when not on a white background.

My god. I now see what you mean bud!

No wonder you don't feel like plotting a load of recon.

I have no immediate thoughts on this i'm afraid. Sarge? I remember asking Harley on this a while back and *I think* I remember him saying it should be possible to change the font but it has not been looked at AFAIK.

Solution - use a desktop not a laptop [;)]
