Death of a protectorate

Post by Grand_Armee »

I suddenly, without a DOW, found myself at war with France last night. 1805 scenario. His troops in southern Germany marched up through SAxony taking the capital in the same turn.

AFter a few battle, I knocked the French out of my nation and after a few losses. the French surrendered though I hadn't even crossed the Rhine, yet. I had however captured almost the entire Marshallate.

One of the peace conditions was a return of Saxony to me. This done, I went to the diplomacy screen to make it a protectorate. Guess what...Saxony don't exist no mo.

Neither did any nation that had been consumed by another. Implied patricide, or a bug?

I once was looking at the treaties just for relaxing a bit, and I couldnt believe my eyes as I read that Britain, Spain and Turkey had made a treaty to DOW me (France) for the next month. In this case no message appears telling you that Britain f.ex. has DOW you. They just attack you. You should read the treaties.
In your case it is possible that some other nation forced France to DOW you, and as they where already were low in NML, they surrendered very soon.

They like to "surprise attack" us, no report of which will ensue.

It's always been this way, since ver 1.0: once a minor is conquered it is gone for good. There is no way you can resurrect them.

I agree this needs to be changed. I usually play as France or Prussia, and as much as I try to protect the german minors (I need them independent if they are going to be my trading partners), they always end up conquered by someone else so I have no option but to annex them after defeating their conqueror.

Funny thing is, that if one of the conquered provinces you start out with has an insurrection, and you reconquer it, it still has the second flag that it started with.

It signals that they finally remembered their lineage.

My grandfather saw it too, and he tells me the graphics were very lifelike. He was amazed at the rag-doll physics and the Surround Sound blew him away [:D]
