Question ABout Clearing Out Pilots

Post by Dereck »

I've been told that in the scenario I've been working on that it may be to my best interests to clear my pilots out and let the AI generate random ones.

Can anyone here tell me exactly what "clearing out" means? Does that mean clear out where the pilots are assigned to or what?

Thanks.

It probably replaces dead pilots who had zero kills with ones that are alive

I take to mean completely removing all pilots so the table is empty.

Below is an empty pilot table. Rename it to wpp099.zip, unzip it and then rename wpp099.dat to whatever slot number your scenario is in.

I'm still not grasping everything [8|]

1. Does "empty" mean to delete all the pilots or just change the Group they are assigned to to "none"?

2. Don't I have to keep the pilots who are listed as being "leaders"?

Hi

If you change the Group to "none", the pilot will not even be loaded by program. So you may as well just use a blank file as the Captain said.

The only benefit of stating that a pilot is a leader is that he will fly and be the leader of the group. He still will be in the available leader list even if he is removed from the pilot file.

A leader can still be in charge of a group without the need to be a pilot in the group.
If you look at the some of the starting groups, you will find that the leader is not one of the pilots. If you split a group, then one of the pilots will be made a leader of the split.

What difference does it make when for a squadron you type in a number for experience and moral as opposed to just leaving it blank?

worr, as far as I can make it out makes the average experience etc for that unit up to that value. So you could create an elite squadron of ex-BoB vets if you wanted...
Or alternatively that crowd of klunkers who can barely fly.

Bear in mind that replacements will still come from whatever value you've got in the pool for that year - hard coded :(

Thanx.

So you don't have to create new pilots? OK, sounds like the computer just creates them randomly, but at that experience/moral number.

But here is a follow up question. Do you only get as many pilots of THAT particular quilay for as many as aircraft come in with the new squadron?

For example. The 475th FG with its three squadrons had hand picked pilots as the first P-38 FG also the first created in theater. But it had to scrouge for planes and a couple squadrons were canabalized and turned in their own 38s for 47s. Could you create this scramble for planes but make it invisiting by putting good quality pilots in there to lure the player into fleshing this famous unit out?

I'm guessing the answer is no.

I don't think so, worr. At least, I can't see a way... wait.

How about assigning a FG - 48 pilots, right? - with an obsolete a/c, and give it the upgrade path you want. Time it right, or create a 'copy' of the correct aicraft with the arrival and replacement dates you're after, and that could work, yes?
