Award change...Just Curious

Post by ChiefT »

In this issue, I've noticed that pitchers now win a "Best Pitcher Award" and not the "CY Young Award" as in previous issues. Why the change?

Just curious. Thanx

Hey Chief, I'm not a representative of Matrix and so can't provide a certain answer, but I'd imagine its a legal issue: 'Cy Young Award' may be a trademark of Major League Baseball, and without an official MLB license, Matrix's legal department may have advised the name change.

Yeah, MLB and the Players' Association are very picky when it comes to requiring licensing agreements.

Any thought to having the award names (MVP, best rookie, best pitcher) being editable?

I went ahead and changed the award name just to be safe. As for making the award names editable, I do have that suggestion logged. Not sure when I'll get to it but I appreciate the feedback.

Regardless of trademark issues, I like the change. A "Cy Young Award" makes no sense in early historical replays or in fictional worlds.

id like to be able to edit the names so that i can name the awards in later seasons after the best pitchers from my earier seeason.

the best pitcher award in my last league would have been called the Larry Corcoran who went 108-10 in 5 seasons

dave
thanks,
Dave

That would be nice - and it would let those who want a 'Cy Young' award a simple interface to it without infringing on anybody's legal rights.

What about 'World Series"? Doesn't MLB have the rights to that name also? Maybe Association Championship?

Sadly, yes.
