Looking for a Jap opponent for the CHS 1 May 1942 scenario with Andrew's Extended map.

No ASW TF's with more than 6 DDs or 8 TOTAL ships.
No more than 25 ships in any type of COMBAT TF.

I have just succeeded in getting CHS and the Extended Map to work properly. However, it appears to me CHS scenarios (there are two - 154 and 155 - the latter for the extended map) start Dec 7, 1941. Further, I don't see any reason a Japanese player would want to NOT play the vital early period of the war when critical strategies really matter. Had Japan moved into the area around New Caledonia in early 1942, there would have been virtually nothing to stop them - as just an example. On the other hand, you seem to have something specific in mind. I will listen to what it may be.

I am something of a student of the IJN, and laterly the IJA as well - I used it originally to learn about things Navy - which I found confusing - and I was IN the USN at the time! I have done this sort of game manually for decades, and I love the idea of "fast" turns with automated processing. I usually can process more than one turn a day, but some days I cannot. I found WITP frustrating due to errors and Andrew Browns map seems to fix 99% of this. CHS also looks good, and I am now submitting some data for its future mods.

IF you have any interest in data undernieth the game, I have a set of databases (and other documents) on Imperial units (and some US ones - notably submarines). I can send you excel spreadsheets on ships, planes, vehicles, organization, etc.

My email address is trevethans@aol.com. I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and I presently do research on PLA units for authors, scholars, soldiers and intelligence officers. So I have data sets on it as well - the most elaborate open source material ever collected (so I am told).

Sid, you should talk to Andrew Brown cause he's the dude with the reigns of power and has open ears. You sound pretty hardcore. That's cool.

SGT Swanson, what effect on the game does setting vary ON but historical first turn OFF? I thought 'vary' only affects the game if the AI does the first turn for you. I'm probably missing something here so please advise. I like the idea of a varied opening situation but the historical first turn is killing me in the first game I'm playing now cause I got no move bonus (also the enemy was too chicken to have the vary option on). My enemy is licking his chops as he wades through my subs hopelessly trying to crawl away from Pearl, not to mention my initial landings taking weeks to occur instead of one day.

With Historical First Turn off, if you leave variable settings off, then everything will be set up as it was historicaly for you. If you turn the variable settings to ON, then you acually have to build and plan ALL your on stuff. At least that's what I've seen so far.

If anyone can add to this, then please do so.

If you set historical first turn to "on", neither side gets to enter orders for the first turn, the game proceeds directly to the execution of the turn. Therefore if you select a scenario that does not have orders already entered for units for the first turn, setting historical first turn to "on" will result in a very boring first turn.

Setting vary to "on" and historical first turn to "off" may result in the allied CVTFs in Hawaiian waters to end up in port with the BBs, or it may result in the US Pacific fleet being at sea, BBS and CVs together, when KB arrives.

I'm pretty sure that these settings were designed for use with the standard scenario 15 only.

I suppose your right. As I only have 2 PBEMs going, and both started on Dec. 7th.
