Call for Volunteers - Pacific Front Version

Post by Bil H »

We are thinking about forming a Data Design Team to start work on a Pacific version of this game. If you would like to apply and think you have the background, available time and the capability to do the research please send an e-mail to myself at: bil@panthergames[dot]com, and please CC Dave at: dave@panthergames[dot]com

I'm just wondering, are you guys thinking about releasing Conquest of the Aegean any time soon?

It's been a while and there hardly are any updates.

YES[:)]

We just put out another beta build last night and it's with the testers now. All feature dev has finished and we're into the final testing phase. Should not be too long now.

Try looking on the COTA Forum. I think you'll find a fair number of updates. [;)]

Bil:

In a broad sense, what are you thinking? Major battles such as okinawa tarawa and the like? Adding a naval aspect for unloading of troops?

Crimguy, the scope has already been set. Dave laid it out nicely in a post on the COTA forum. Basically, we are starting with Guadacanal and Finschafen.. but a few more battles are planned also. We are also going to lower the scale to Platoon units with no formations larger than a Division on map. We have a great team who are hard at work putting it together and I think its going to be great.

It sounds very interresting. I'd be very curious to see the result of this.

With other expansions going to be less tactical (larger maps, etc...) and this, it will be very nice to see how the engine scale. And my bet is that it will scale better down.

Gentlemen:

A gamer named Craig (elcidce) wrote me requesting information on the Pacific, including a list of books. I replied to him but my mail keeps being returned.

Would you advise him that his e-mail address does not work so I can't send him the list. I've tried numerous times but nothing. Here is the reply I'm sending him.

But I'll need his correct e-mail address to send it to him.

ORIGINAL: WillardIf it is possible to "scale" the HTTR system down to platoon level, why would it not be possible to "scale" up to strategic level??? That way you could use the same engine and CC structure with army groups, corps, divisions and brigades???

Primarily because at the higher level the entire combat system would need to be changed. The moveGrid scale for such a game would be in kilometers not 100m - well beyond the normal range of small arms and most hevy weapons. hence there would be a need to abstract much of the combat. Moreover, the reaction code would need to be totally overhauled to cater for the increase in scale.

Platoon size is good for this one. We already have Gary Grigsby's works on the Pacific on the Strategic level. There is a real dearth of good operational and tactical level games for this theme.

I think it is a grand idea, a long time coming...WB

Hey I resemble that remark!!!
I'd prefer the term "intelligent non-conforming insect" as opposed to bug. [:D]

Anyway, enough with the bugs and get the "Rats, Foxes and Sand" game finished for North Afrika!!!
