No Other Current Publishers? Even Minor Self-Publishing Ones?

Is it really that dismal out there?

I could swear I'm forgetting somebody important.

OK, let me be more clear on what I'm looking for:

1. First and foremost To compile a full complete list of current major and minor wargame publishers that have at least one title currently available for purchase.

2. A Distant Second to that is a list of Former Major wargame publishers (not minor). The kind that maybe half of the average PC wargamers out there would instantly recognize as the guys who put out xyz game. The kind that put out 6 or so wargame titles. At least a couple of which must be turn-based.

Three-Sixty was mentioned I instantly came up with a title or 2.

I think the problem with names like Microsoft, Sierra, Activision, UBIsoft etc. is that no real "Wargame Title" really comes to mind, past or present, except maybe Close Combat in Microsoft's case...(Which some don't even consider a wargame).
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This list will be part of a "PC Wargamer Survey" and I want to make sure the choices are accurate prior to starting the survey because I hate changing questions or options after the fact (it obviously can de-value some of the results).

This is the only set of questions holding me up so any help is greatly appreciated :)

LOL it just popped into my head... Strategy First.

I knew I was missing someone

GI Combat
Sudden Strike Games
Galactic Civilizations (Turn Based)
Disciples II & III (Turn Based)
Space Empires IV (Turn Based)

Now no doubt there is a reason why they don't come to mind right away as a "wargame publisher" but many of their titles are in fact turn based and very much along the lines of what Matrix publishes. Some argue that the likes of GI Combat and Sudden Strike are every bit as much a wargame as Close Combat was as well. Either Way they have some of the few turn-based titles available to fantasy or sci-fi wargamming enthusiasts..

Anyway I'd still like to know who "better fits" the definition of wargame publisher big or small.

If some of you wouldnt count Paradox, Strategy First, or Shrapnel... Then that really only leaves 4 publishers lol. I'm sure there must be others on your buying list no?

Games like Close combat bring more people into into the fold far more than any RTS game could - so yep, for me it's a certain wargame

Well if you're going to include Diciples II, then New World Computering and HOMM series, Triumph Studios and Age of Wonders series.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

Good points except:

New World Computing went out of business and their website has been down for awhile. I believe UbiSoft bought what was left of them or at least rights to the Might & Magic Name.

Triumph Studios is the developer of the Age of Wonders series and does not publish the titles. That is done by Gathering which is a Take2 Company. And I'd hardly consider them even to remotely be either a strategy or a wargame publishing company. Even with Civ4 I think they just dont have enough total titles to qualify. Maybe its because they have too many Grand Theft Auto Titles, don't know. Again I think the problem is when you say Take2, no one can think of a single strategy, turn-based game, or wargame that they've put out. They are simply 2 big.

I think Paradox and Strategy First are easier choices because while they may debatably not make anything that is even remotely a wargame, 90% of their line are at least strategy games and far closer than titles like Grand Theft Auto...

Not exactly. They are amongst those that believe there is no money to be made in PC Games anymore I guess. They stopped making PC Games a long time ago and now mostly do Playstation Titles. Probably like 95%. With a few gameboy, gamecube, and xbox titles thrown in.

Not altogether bad looking stuff though.. I'm holding out for the new XBOX myself. I like giving Microsoft my money..

Why would anyone omit Shrapnel? The ProSim games alone (IMHO the best modern warfare games available) would demand Shrapnel's inclusion, and they publish some other wargames too. Sure they publish some non-wargames, but then so does Matrix.

Anyway, I have one addition to the list;

Jeff Lapkoff games

Well the only reason I mentioned HOMM and AOW is because you asked if I'd never heard of a "fantasy wargame". So, you made me believe you were including publishers/developers that had made some fantasy wargames ( I call them strategy games), but, definitions of what is what is so individual these days no one really knows the "true" definition anymore.

So, I'm sure you'll pick the ones YOU believe are wargames, it doesn't mean that everyone believes that way or even a majority. A forum population certainly doesn't equate to any majorities any any sense or form, it's just a portion of the population of many genre's.

Fantasy clickfest? HOMM is a "turn based" game, how do you get clickfest out of that?
