AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/14/41

As I expected, Singapore became base for B-17s, they attacked Kuching. Also, bombers from Sinkawang attacked my ships nearby Kuching & Kuching AF. Weather is now allied ally (tunderstorms in Saigon... partly cloudly in the Singapore). After long discusing, imperial HQ decide not sending Zero's to Kuching for two reasons... AF is at 42 damage (yesterday was 44) and Zeros will be fatigued (above 20). Besides that, imp HQ still believe that our air forces can suprise american mercenaries (AVG) at Singapore. We have to be patient, Ish-proc-go is based on cautious advancing and sudden tsunami strike from the air. This will be possible when Georgetown falls to the japan hands.

Two divisions (Imp G and 5th + eng rtg) ordered for shock attack on Georgetown. Hope that Sallys will fly from Bankog and Kompong thach and help our brave army.

Two naval battles happend in Menado. Andy probably hoped for better results.

Philippines were quiet - Legaspi and Aparri airfields were closed down (bad weather) but Manila and CF AFs are still damaged. I'm going to break trough tommorow at Naga.

CHINA: is seems that Andy took good things from String. He using Singapore as air base for B17s, and he start to move some troops from Homan towards Hsyiang (sp?) and Kaifeng. We will se if it is only feint....

EDIT: noticed strange thing and don't know if it is by design or...? I have 2 div at Alor Star (enemy control); recently i have sent additional troops to Alor Star from Songhia but they did not come in Alor hex - they have stay in Songhia hex although distance is shown 60/60?

Maybe those troops must move one more meter to arrive so next turn they should rock up to Aloe Star. Perhaps one of them forgot his lunchbox or something so they had to wait up for him.

pauk, thanks for answering the questions. Each answer you provide helps me avoid another dehibilitating blunder. I suppose I could practice against the AI but its extremely time consuming as I tried it once and it took like over an hour or two for one turn I think without me doing many moves. My computer is even slower than my brain. My brain moves like molasses in Antartica while my computer is like a ruptured turtle covered in liquid nitrogen.

I will try to limit my questions to story events. [:)] Okay then, I'm thinking that you can launch some big air raids against Singapore once the weather clears to try and catch some of his hardware on the tarmac. You might take out some of those dangerous B-17s like that. What do you think?

I like all those little naval fights. They are fun. Thanks for the frequent AAR updates. I ran out of reading material when the lunacies dried up so this is good.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/15/41

Strong enemy fleet (10 ships) is located at Palembang. I've ordered LBA to naval attack and Zero for escort, but bad weather still prevents my missions. That's why i moved reinforcements (base force+construction btn+supplies) from Kuching port. I will not risk sinking of T TF during day phase. I've ordered baby KB and slow BB fleet to move towards Kuching, although i need this forces for south DEI operation (Amboina, Kendari).

Enemy PTs (from Manila) strike at Kuching and sank one AK (supplies). Kuatan bombed with Kongo BB TF (few Hudsons destroyed, 320 casaulties).

Andy continue to attack Kuching with B17, but the good news is fall of the Alor Star (Andy did not want to fight there - good, this place had lvl 5 fort). 3 AK's sent with supply to the Khota Baru - i need to disperse enemy bombers with attracting their attention to many places.

unfortunatly, my plan for surrounding enemy at the Changsa won't work. Andy is too catious and he withdrew some units in hex east of Changsha. I have one division, 2 bde's and one tank rtg north of Changsha and i send them east but there is not much hope for great encircling...

Heavy air raids on Manila and CF continuing. Andy withdraw part of his forces from Naga, recon reported 7 enemy units (27000) just one hex from Naga. Does it mean that he changed PP's to Clark? However, i can't risk with that, and IMO there is no need for that. Manila should fall soon. 2th Division and support troops arrived at Naga.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/16/41

Not a good turn. One DD and couple of PGs sunk, even my naval leader gained tactical advantage... but 90% of fired shots were from american PTs.... and it is really annoying to see how 0.5inch can penetrate and cause critical damage on DD. phew... What is really interesting, AK Sagoland kicks my 2 aux ships... buahahha!

Well, Andy certainly love PTs... oh, and my I-boats this turn were in strike. I especially worried about lone MSW on PH-SanF route... she did not move today and i can not allow this. Sub sent to her position but no action from her.

I'm interested guys what do you think about this tactic, lonely , "low-point recon" ships?


This turn, Alor Star got attention from B17s. I hope he will switch back to the Kuching because i've transfered 3 Zero daitai's there.

Catalinas from Amboina spoted my invasion fleet and I'm not sure is it worth to take risk becase i do not have air support there....

Nice map. Thanks for that. paul please see my previous post and consider my substandard advice for dealing with the B-17 menace out of singapore.

I don't think the low point recon ship tactic should be outlawed cause it is possible to do in real life but I wouldn't do it myself. I prefer just to send in the big boys and get the job done.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/17/41

Hi, Andy is not stupid. Even if I manage to launch air strike, he will certaintly keep his B-17s in the air (on mission). So i would catch only short range bombers (although this is not a bad, and i'm planning to do it, especially after......

my SAMURAI's shows who is the ruler of the sky! Finally i have some luck here (many my brilliant plans failed due to bad luck[:'(]) but this time everything went perfectly.....my "vulture tactic" pay off this time:). 21 enemy planes destroyed on the ground during air strikes on Rangoon and Manila. What a good turn....




All in all enemy lost 89 planes and brave japanese airforce lost 7 planes (A2A 66:3, field 21:0, flak/ops 2:4). Crucial moment was when my Zero's succesfully bounced part of AVG, latter they easily crushed enemy bombers (only few get through).

this is very important victory for me. The benefits are:

1. app 25% of AVG were eliminated (19 planes)

2. 8 B-17 E and 5 B-17 C were lost + quite a lot other bombers.

3. I managed to bring reinforements in the Kuching (Base fore and naval const btn + supply)

4. Enemy bomber groups (especially B17) now are demoralised (lots of them turned off). Does anyone can guess about their moral level?

5. 16 B-17 E damaged and they are grounded now in Singapore, so Sing AF is perfec target now.

6. Andy's moral will be affected too.



Kuching is slowly repairing. 14 AF damage, 32 service damage and 62 port damage. But i already have 160 eng there.

I'm planing retaliation mission on Singapore AF, but again i have extremely bad weather (thunderstorms). I have two AFs now available for air strike on Singapore:

Alor Star (air HQ is in Songhia(range 4) - will they provide support for strike?) and Saigon (yes, i have to use Betty and Nells)

I'm not sure which AF to use, the best solution would be both but i don't have decent escort for both of them. I have no choice, must use Zero's with 20 or more fatigue....

Enemy sub torpedoed APD at the Camrah Bay. Betty from Saigon torpedoed AP Van Imhoff (traveling towards Singapore - loaded with men).

Recon ac reported massing enemy troops in the Manila. Clark is almost empty. I wonder what kind of trick it is? Personally I would be more than glad that Andy pick Manila for last stand, but i doubt...

My troops arrived at Chagsha. Andy have 60 000 men there.

[X(] Wow you really are brilliant. [&o] Your plan of hurting his airforce in aerial combat and then bombing the airport coupled with perfect execution of the air battle is genius. This is why I think you should be in the top 5 IJN players list. Expanding is gonna be so easy now without the nagging naval bombings on your TFs. It looks like your bad luck flu is still there a bit with the thunderstorms protecting his base but don't worry cause luck is like the weather and soon changes.

pauk, do you remember the relative altitudes of the planes? It looked like his were all set to 6000 in previous posts so how about yours? I'm wondering cause in my practice game the B-17s are very hard to kill even with constant attention from zeros and tend to only get damaged.

Thx guys, but i was aware that my luck won't last for to much honger[:(]. Even a brilliant plan do not worth a doit if you are without luck (there is one croatian saying hard to translate: it is better to born without "sausage" then without luck. Because if you have luck, your "saussage" will grown up)....

I've ordered 100-LB strike from Saigon with support of 60 fighters but bad weather prevents mission and Andy got warning (message "saigon air mission canceled). It is very sadly that was consider naval/airfield attack but leave them on af mission. Yes, you are guessing right - no cloud over saigon during PM phase. This time i changed orders to naval/af attack....


But, the worst news coming form Pacific - KB is spoted or better to say Val's found his sub(s).... however, i've ordered full speed to SE maybe i will catch something (sure!)



DEI/MALAYA

Two succesful intercepts of enemy transports near Singapore, light SC TF ("Sendai raiders" - Cl + 5 DDs) sunk AK Tjisareoea, AK Bengalen and AP Van Imhoff).

Lone DD Amigari had poor performance - only three shell hits hited AP President Mason (no real damage)

SS O20 torpedoed our AK at Kuching. I-154 returns the favor and put one fish in enemy AK NW of Batavia. Unsucessful naval attack from Alor Star with Sallys on enemy APs near Malacca. Advance through Malaya continues.

I'm not just unlucky, i'm stupid too. When i changed orders for LB at Saigon, forgot to clear escort destination for zero's... and yes, Saigon AF was operational in the morning phase and i've lost more than 30 Betty/Nells.

(LBA were on naval attack and attacked enemy SC at Sing. escort was set on Singapore)

I have to withdraw and reorganize them.

During PM phase Singapore is finally attacked. The combat was fierce and Andy can claim stragegic victory. My tactical gain is another decimating AVG force, but i can not be pleased with 80:79 A2A losses in decembar...but it seems to me that more pilots survived than ac lost. fortunatly.

I-166 puts three torps in enemy AK. ASW TF drops 2 type91 bombs on O19 in Camrah port

Great news from KB. They engaged and sank MSW Grebe or something[8|]

In China, my units continuing cleaning railroad from single chinese units between Hsyiang (sp?) and Kaifeng.

However Pauk...where's the 33rd Division? and the 55th? It seems that with one division you can burn the hell out of those white bastards and encircle them bypassing Mouleim. With only one mix regiment it's not possible imho

I lost DD Hatsuharu - just two nasty PT's were enough to sink her near Brunei, although i had three more DDs in escort. My forces sunk only one... phew.

I-166 attacked on surface AK Kota Radja and puts one torpedo into her.

Sometimes i just hate game mechanics! Bettys at Kuching were on naval attack and got decent support, but instead attacking enemy SC at Singapore hex they attacked single AK docked in Miri!... but when they are without escort they will run into murderous enemy CAP....

well, i'm thinking about Subchaser map.

As you can see from picture above they are engaged in Malaya. 33th Div just leaving Bankok and can not came on time in the Burma. That was initial plan - you can't advance at so many places in the same time. Singapore gets priority, i not expecting much from "Burma army group".

It depends Pauk. If I was him i'd swithc replacements off for every other p-40 ( B or E) groups on map. Then upgrade to p-40E asap that group of p-40Bs that is at PH at the begining of the war...so probably he can have more p-40Bs at his disposal...but however he won't be able to hold the line for a long time with those planes...replacements are too low and if you keep them under costant pressure with your crack zeros, he won't even be able to upgrade not to risk to have 72 planes under repair when you come with hordes of bombers well escorted to bomb the hell out of his airfield!



I'd produce many more Sallies and Helens...at least double production.
Some more zeros ( around 220/250) and defenetly more OSCARs!!!! You need them till august...then all those industries will start producing Tonies... so start planning since yesterday![:D]
