AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/03/42

Palembang fell at the first attempt. No surprise here. He used the 35th Bde reinforced by 3 Strong SNLF units.
EAGLE operation goes on. The AVG is on its route. Same for some more 40 P-40s from Manila.
Wirraways and Hudsons ( that will be soon upgraded to Hurricanes and Beauforts) are being moving to Darwin. As soon as i have enough PPs i'll send them to Sosarbaja.
3 CVs sailed today from PH. Destination Oz firts, then Java. 5 BBs are with them.
Probably tomorrow we'll decide to give another attempt and load some more British units in India. Could be a great adventure[:D]
He's incredibly slow in Burma. He did not even advance towards Mouleim. Very good.

In China my costant movements on his flanks at Ichang are forcing him to keep some units out of the incommin fight[8D]

Johre Baru( sp?) will be conquered Tomorrow i think. Landings at Mersing.
The AVG will reach Sosarbaja Tomorrow. more units comming from everywhere....i really hope he doesn't land in Java too soon[&:] I need at least 2 more weeks.... Singapore and Manila gotta hold for some time...or we're toasted

One more hit by a sub of mine!

Ichang has been sieged today. 18 units. 6 more to come. I barely have 1000 APs there...if i lose Ichang it's gonna be damned hard to keep China alive!

At Canton he's losing a ot of men keeping on frontal attacking my units[8D]

what?! Gen. Hoeppner is in the allied boots? cccccc...and i wonder where the world is going? [X(][:(][;)]

It would be interesting to follow this AAR too.... i will applaud for your successful moves, but devil in me will cheers for every japanese success.[;)]

GL with deployment of your CV's in Java. I had once a opponent who lost 3 carriers with such extravagant idea (of course, KB was present there)... do you have a counter measures for LBA and the real KB?

I know it's risky. But i do not plan to move my CVs in those waters. Just launch their air groups and then go back to Perth.
But it all depends of timings...if he will get to Java too soon i'll have to change all my plans!

Me too i cheer for every jap success...my heart will always beat with the Axis[8D], but for this time i want to be in the role of the EVIL[:D][:D][:D]

A bird that could not fly...

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/05/42

The ABDA command HQ was shocked today getting the report of a HUGE Japanese Naval Force approaching Northern Java. EAGLE hasn't been put on hold yet, but the Brits are already expressing their bad feelings about a suicide mission that could put a serious threat over the Indian Dominions...and just to save some ducthes! Nimitz isn't happy anymore of sending his precious CVs so far from PH....so..the allies aren't so allied!
Seriously: he's clearly coming for Java...sooner than what i expected ( Manila and Singa are yet to be conquered...). I have 110 Fighters and a bunch of useless bombers at Sosarbaja...Batavia AF has been already evacuated. At the first sight of an invasion force coming from Palembang of Kunching i'll evacuate Batavia...no way i'll let him cut my defences in 2 pieces by a landing in the middle of Java! I won't have the time to reinforce Sosarbaja...i know now. However Eagle will fly for the moment...let's see if a bit of luck can save my day.
POW arrived at Colombo safe[:D]
Mersin Fell today. the Imperial Guard Division is now moving to join the other units for the last assault over Singapore.
Menado fell easily.
Bataan is falling.

Problems in China..damn serious ones....Ichang is falling...my rescue troops are still on their way....:-( probably i won't make it. Without Ichang the whole theatre will become a mess! I'm trying to make some pressure on its flanks ( see map), but i guess that won't be enough to stop him[:o]....

Some of his MSWs entered in Singapore Hex today...they got clobbered[;)]
Ichang held...at least for today. Forts are at 2 and 17% is still left to get back to 3...maybe maybe....[&o]
We ambushed with a couple of p-40 some Sonias over Changsha...2 actually shot down...but numbers do not matters...not now however. just the message: I'm here!

One more little ducth regiment managed to get unloaded at Sosarbaja....lack of pps avoided me from loading another regiment...however we're gettin some of them in. An Indian Division is on its way...lets see.
He bombed as predicted Batavia...nothing particular i'd say. all the planes are safe at Sosarbaja.

My subs stopped making kills... and eventually get attacked and damaged...so probably it's time to stop this campaign and go back to a safer place in order to reorganize and rearm.

He's popping up every single base in North Guinea...nothing i can do about that.

Where the eagles dare

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Hwk will be away till tomorrow evening...
so turns will be quite slow in this week end.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/07/42

Situation is slightly better than yesterday.
China is holding...at least for the moment. His first assault on Ichang has been stopped. If i can hold him for another 10/15 days i'll be able to reinforce the place. At Canton another attempt of pushing me out has been bloody stopped. Losses for the japs are very high[:D]At the same time 3 corps are flanking Canton positions from the North, pushing back some 10,000 japanese towards the coast[:)]
I'm waiting for his river crossing at Yenen...but i'm quite positive...i'm sure the flanking movements at the back of his main army at Ichang are making him a bit nervous[8D]

Chittaong( the former Bangladesh) has reached AF level 5....120 b-17s moved there. They'll support the British Burma Army at Mouleim[;)]

Men and supplies are flowing to Java. 2 Divisions ( one indian and the 18th are coming from India along with an Air HQ, 3 arty units and 1 tank rgt). A 20 ships SCTF is coming back to SRA, led by the CL Java[:D].
4 Hudson groups are ready to be upgraded to beauforts at Sosarbaja. 120 fighters are taking care of the Skies of the Java Capital. I'm building up a non-coastal AF in Java, so that i could base my B-17s there without risking of been plastered by his BBs....

CVs are still on their route.

Argonaut SS has been ordered to place 30 mines at Palembang and then move back to Diamond Harbour.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/09/42

Japan is massing his troops for the last push for Singapore and Manila. Hope my guys will hold for few days at least. Mouleim will be attacked soon and probably Balikapan will be his next target in SRA. However, i'm a bit...just a bit confident.
I've saved already 5 colonial units and brought them to Java. In one week the 18th UK Div will be unloading at Sosarbaja...and many more indian units will follow in the next 5 days. Hundreds of supplies are on their way for Java. Forts are building up. Planes are comin from Darwin via Timor. My CVs are near Pago Pago....
if Singapore and Manila will hold their positions for a while....Java will become a damn HUGE problem for him.

In China nothing new today.

In Burma i'm waiting for his assault at Mouleim.

In the pacific he's just moving in the Solomons and towards NG...today Gasmata fell.

He came with a bombardment TF at Manila...he got mauled[:D] Lost 4 DDs and other ships badly hit[8D] very good. These losses slow down his pace in the area!
In China is a mess. He tried to close the retreat path of one of my army groups engaged at Syniang, east of Ichang, and crossed a river...but my brave soldiers stopped his 50,000...even if only for one day i think...a ratio of 1-1 means disaster for tomorrow...
However Ichang keeps holding...it's costing so much for him that i can feel the pain of his soul[:D]
At Canton he abbandoned the idea of pushing me out with the force...he's now limiting hisself to bombard my positions

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/15/42

My subs are becoming less effective every day that passes. The combined actions of his naval and air ASW groups are clearly having good results. I'm slowly retiring them from the front.

In Burma my b-17s started to pound his advancing 33rd Division..this unit is ready to cross the river of Mouleim and i want to be sure that it arrives as distrupted as possible[;)]

In China i managed to acquire a momentaneus statlemate everywhere. Ichang,Sinyang, Canton... everywhere the japs have been stopped and are now taking a breath after the heavy losses of the past days. The only place where i'm sure i'll have to get back is Yenen...simply do not have enough troops to halt his advance.
However, this time gained is precious, cause it gives me the chance or reinforce Ichang and at the same time redeploy the units i have around Kunming and move them closer to the front.

In Java...the first Indian Units will start to unload tomorrow[;)] In one week there should be at Sosarbaja 2 more fresh divisions,1 more air HQ and 3 artillery units with a tank brigade...enough to give him some bad headhaches[8D]

Now we're moving for a long range encirlement of Canton!
Banzai!...ehm...ehm...no, not really banzai^_*

the first pieces of 4.5 pounds are being unloading in Java along with an entire Indian Division[;)]
At Sosarbaja i have some 100 P-40s and some 30 Hurricanes plus all those useless ducth planes. Not bad.

Singapore holds.
Manila hasn't been attacked yet.
Java has some 1000 Assault points and the forts are rising.

Waiting for next turn i'm getting a bit nervous....i need those british units to get ashore asap...i do not care much for the ships, but those units are really important. Do not know if with 1000/1300 Assault points Java will be likely to hold for a reasonable time or not. For sure if he overuns Java easily the gates of India will be open and i'll have to reconsider my whole strategy. But as long as his units are stuck in Burma, at Singapore and Manila, Java can live...and every day means more troops recovered, more planes filled in and more forts built up.
And the Yankees are on the move. Palmyra and Christmas will soon become untouchable and slowly the nails of the western powers will start to scratch the paint of the Japanese Empire ( especially in CENTPAC)

Thinking of moving the b-17s to Java...but i need a level 5 AF...as soon as i have it i'll transfer my monsters[:D]

Darwin is safe. 2 big Australian Units already arrived in Place...he's going to have hard times in the SRA soon[8D]

Simply 2 great days of war.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/19-20/42

Let's start from China.
Everywhere we're holding. The japs are losing men at a ratio of 3 to 1[:D]. Ichang is just an imprendible fortress and those 30,000 men, without artillery and with very low supplies are making miracles against 120,000 jap troops!!!
In two deliberate attacks in a row Japan lost (1037 men + 14guns) and (1129 men + 36 guns) in exchange of a grand total of 1100 chinese troops and 9 guns. And forts are holding and even rising!
At Syniang he just stopped attacking...
On the crossroads that leads to Homan he lost in 2 different attacks 6000 men and 100 guns...while my losses are far below 500!
At Canton his bombardments have decreased their effectiveness and my army keeps advancing southeast in its flanking movement
Only Yenen is directly in danger

Malaya:
Singapore holds tight. Forts are still up to 6. Even if my losses are quite high. for two times odds have been 0-1 in my favour

Manila:
The city is holding. forts are only at level 3, but he managed to get only a 0-1 with high casualities ratio. Now he's bombarding.

...and while all these places are holding...Java is getting stronger! Everyone of the 6 units sent to Java reached Sosarbaja safely[:D] Not a single torpedo hits on my transports[;)]
We're slowly abbandoning Batavia and the North of Java, to concentrate ourself in the defence of the souther perimeter.
More than 300 planes are based in souther Java, spread around 3 different AF ( one of which has not a port in it[;)]).
2 CLs and 10 DDs reached Sosarbaja and are now waiting....let's see what he wants to risk.

My CVs are approaching Brisbane tomorrow.

Troops ,supplies and fuel moving from SF to PH and from there to Palmyra, Cristmas, Johnston isl and Midway.... step by step we'll get the PH defensive perimeter bigger[:D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/21/42

He finally got my transports unloading at Java with his Nells from Palembang...but they were empty[:D][:D]
More than 400 planes in Southern Java.
CVL Hermes moving from Colombo in these hours will launch 2 groups of Swordfish to Java and then it will go back to India.

At Manila he managed to break one of my forts...but we're already at 2 and 93%[;)] and he's not bombing the base with his Sallies

He's very conserative with his air assets...even with the IJAAF...wonder why[&:]

In China everywhere we're holding. It's a good statlemate[8D]

At Cebu island in 7 days after the first landings he only managed to break 1 forts..but now he cannot go on anymore...need more units to push me out[:D]...and so more time gained!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/22/42

KB spotted at Balikapan. CV Akagi indentified. the 80% of my bombers have moved to Medioen with some 80 Ducth fighters. The Bulk of my fighters force is at Sosarbaja at 90% CAP, with some bombers at 15k ft. I assume he will come to strike my ducth navy at Sosarbaja...well...let's see if we can hurt the KB...even 1 single hit would be glad[:D]
The defensive perimeter at Java is being built. I've placed some units at Kragen just to prevent an early landing here. I want him to land in the north and so gain some more days. Sosarbaja has 5 forts and 70%, Medioen 2 forts and 40%. I need to have 9 forts at Sosarbaja. 2 HQs ( the ABDA and one british Air HQ) will help recovering the disabled squads waiting for the final battle.
The plan is to hurt the KB...possibli making him lose some crack pilots before my US CVs get in place and land their fighters and SDBs at Sosarbaja.
I'm quite confident.

At Singapore another shock attacked is repulsed with huge losses on his side.
Everywhere else ( china and Manila) saw just bombardments today.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 127532 troops, 1276 guns, 14 vehicles

Defending force 68857 troops, 568 guns, 25 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 6)

Japanese ground losses:
4065 casualties reported[:D]
Guns lost 115
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
192 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

Really intresting to see how tough the DEI region will be for Japanese! I would assume that your opponent will have an unpleasent suprise when he comes roaming in! [:)]

What kind of fighter cover you got setup in DEI?
