It's the Spanish post-war version of the 109, painted up for the movie "Battle of Britain". They used Spanish-made He 111 as well.

Can't for the life of me remember who made them or what their designation was...

That's the bunny! The Czech company Avia also made a version of the 109, which ironically enough was flown by the Israelis in the 1948 war.

and ironically the Spanish 109 has a Merlin engine, just like the Spitfire.
it does spoil the classic lines of the fuselage, what looks good in a spitfire does not look so good in the 109

The Germans only gave them half of the drawing in 1942.
