It's on the CD sleeve.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I am trying to update my version 1.005 CD and when I enter what I'm guessing is the serial # (off the CD sleeve) I keep getting told that it is invalid. Is there a way around this, or am I typing in the wrong number? The # I'm trying to input is "TY Y xxxxxx xxx-xxx" Is this the right format for the serial number or is there one hidden somewhere?

Jan: edited to remove the actual serial number for security reasons.

Um... wrong use of hyphens.... and edit out that serial number if it's the real one. No reason to have it stolen.

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx I think is the format

Um...no I typed it exactly as it appeared on the sleeves - only one hyphen in the whole thing. And ..um... security doesn't make a bit of difference when the number doesn't work. I typed it that way to see if anyone recognized that as the general format of the serial code.

If this answer actually helps me figure this out, then thank you for the help. Otherwise, I don't ..umm.. need sarcasm or my messages edited.

Well the actual serial number uses the format I used right there.

As for it not working, that matters less than if someone else can make it work and steal it from you. Believe you me, having your serial stolen will not make you happy!

I don't know where on the physical game you can find the serial. I for one bought mine online. I do know, though, that xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx is the format for it. And I also know it does exist somewhere within your package. That's as helpful as I can be.

Perhaps somewhere else you can find it on the sleeve?

I can assure you that no sarcasm or ill will was intended. The reason I edited your post was entirely to help you.

As Daykares posts - the format is xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx - so that should be somewhere to be found.

I also bought the game online so I cannot help you with the physical placement.

Your serial number is in your registry if you want to see what it is. If you have a European version, it's possible that they have a different registry system, but I don't think so. Otherwise, the number you posted is not a valid registration number. Can you say where you bought the game?

Thank you - I found my serial code in my registry, but the 1.040 patch doesn't recognize it as a valid serial code. Any ideas on what I can do?

This was helpful, anything further I would sure appreciate.

um... Maybe one of the mods will let you send the serial to them to double check it.

Either that or you're using Warez :P

Please confirm where you bought the game. If it was on ebay you likely got a pirated version. In that case your serial number is void.

For the format, yes it is :

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx layout.

It also it is right on the cd, its impossible to miss.

I scanned my cd to show (editted out my code, order id, and such likes)

What is Warez?

My CD is apparently a pirated one from ebay. It was supposed to be a legitimate purchase (on my end) of a used CD and I have obviously been had. It looks nothing like the CD above. I will notify ebay about this person/company/whatever.

If anyone knows any way that I as a good-faith buyer can upgrade my game, please let me know. Otherwise, thank you for your help and time.

I am sorry to hear that.

I dont think you can do anything except buy a legitimate copy.

I hope you can get ebay to do something about the seller - but I fear it wont stop the scammers.

TDR - You can do a digital download at the matrix store for 40$(US) and be up running quickly or if money is a heavy factor the games sells for less at other reputable stores - (amazon, etc)

Either way the game is worth the price of admission.....

I have exactly the same problem. The Patch says, my Serial is invalid.
But this definitly a failure, because I got my copy directly from a german Black Bean Partner for testing.

When did you download this patch? I assume its v1.071b we are talking about, right?

Erik Rutins posted a new version that should work with the international serial numbers as seen in this thread. If you downloaded before he did that the problem is known and fixed. If not I suggest you mail support@matrixgames.com and inform them of the problem.

Well there might be a problem with the serial numbers in Europe.
I purchased my game last week at a store in Belgium.
The serial number is not on the CD but on the back of the manual.
I could install the game but is was not possible to open the 1.004patch with it(message:invalid serial number)
It was, on the other hand, possible to install the 1.007beta patch wih my serial number.
I contacted matrix support about this.

My game said the same thing when I tried to update to 1.070.

I reinstalled the original game and the update worked fine. No idea what the problem was. I hadn't used any mods, either.

Hello to all wargamers and to moderators,
here's Massimo from Italy.
I have bought GGWAW some two weeks ago and am enthusiastic about it, except about some little bugs and Malta role in the conflict.
The question is: have I to download the patch 1.040 since the game is distributed in Italy from october the 28th?
Is Italian version already updated or needs patch's dowloading?
Since Axis aircraft in Sicily does have no effect on allied fleets cruising in Central Mediterranian (as the 1.040 patch declares to correct) I presume I have to download.
Thanks in advance for yuor reply and sorry for my poor english.
Best regards
Massimo
