However, the 21 USN CVEs are now in the thick of the action as the carnage continues:

Unfortunately I never expected this. And I didn't have a plan for it. I couldn't stay in port as I hadn't the air power to cover them in port. So I scattered. But the Allies came deep inside my territory and basically sank everything in sight.

No more oil or resources for me. With the new bases he has taken in the SRA that area is now offlimits to traffic.

I did manage to get some supply in, but not a lot. I'll have to defend with what I've got.

One of my few remaining subs finds a nice target. Not a war winner, but the Curtis was there for some reason, and now it isn't. [8D]
AFter initially engaging on the surface my commander gets wise and does the job with torpedos.

Fortunately I saw that CV TF coming, they hopefully are chasing wakes by now. I'll burst my boilers, but my ships will survive

Engineer's won't reduce forts when they are disrupted. I've found that they will initially reduce forts, but after the first attack will rarely reduce forts.

Stand them down for at least 3 days.

But, I bet you don't have 3 days to just sit and wait.

More troops is what you need.
The older I get, the better I was.

At this point on Saipan I am sitting absorbing punishment. He outnumbers me on the ground 5:1... I think I am being saved by the disruption the Allies took landing. Too bad I couldn't get some reasonable amounts of supply through. Tinian had the supply, Saipan has the staying power. Next time I'll be more careful about portioning that out. Nothing lives above ground except Allied soldiers at this point. And they must all have breathing problems for the dust raised by the constant streams of bombers and their cargo.
