How will this affect Black Powder Wars: Battles of Napoleon?

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

How will this affect Black Powder Wars: Battles of Napoleon?

Post by Le Tondu »

Since Black Powder Wars: Battles of Napoleon is being built with we-go and has learned from all the mistakes of this older Talonsoft engine, how can you possibly improve it without duplicating the effort already in progress?

This will have no effect on the continuing development of Black Powder Wars, to which we are definitely looking forward. There's no need to worry about a conflict between the titles, though I'm sure each will have their fans. However, we'd really have to be nuts to purchase the Talonsoft line and leave these great titles out! [:)]

Not everyone prefers we-go. I find it more realistic but far less enjoyable.
Bring on some Battleground improvements! Credit card is in hand.

Indeed. To each their own.

It was with Combat Mission that WE-GO really turned me on. Did armys really wait while the enemy moved and fired upon them before moving and firing themselves? While enjoying the historical aspect of turn based games, it seemed so unreal.

Oh well. May it be a profitable venture for Matrix. [:)]

PPW:BoN is still coming, the Matrix-Talonsoft deal is fantastic. I am a huge TOAW fan and can't wait!

Generally speaking I am fan of WEGO (or even RTS like HTTR), but if there was *ONE* WEGO game that turned me OFF regarding WEGO it was CM.

Goes to show how diferent we all are... [8|]

V4V and W@W were the games that made me love WEGO; great games those.

You can find someone to like and dislike any type of game you come up with, except maybe Star General wich i think no one liked;^)

I was wondering about that too. I also wonder what the differences will be between the old and new versions, particularly with regard to BG Waterloo and Napoleon in Russia, new versions of which have already been released by HPS. Presumably the HPS improvements can't be incorporated without having the two versions compete with each other.

I loved the original BGW, NIR and PTW maps and overall look, but the game was ruined for me by some very un-Napoleonic howlers. It would be great if the designers make them more authentic this time round...and with a map editor!!!

Failing that, BoN certainly looks promising. Maybe that will be the game that will free me from using miniatures rules with the BGW editor in order to get a decent game...

Cool idea but sounds like a lot of work. Maybe not as much work as painting up several Corps at one = sixty;^)

Well, it's nowhere near as handy as having the computer do it all for you, and you're condemned to solo play, but that can have its advantages. It's definitely quicker than painting multiple corps, for which I have neither the time nor the money, not to mention space. And to be honest, I think it looks much better than miniatures too (although I keep quiet about that on the miniature rules forums I visit [:'(]) Find me a miniatures table that looks anything like as gorgeous as the Prelude to Waterloo map...

I can't find a good picture with a quick google but in the past really awesome looking games apeared in the pages of "Miniature Wargames" Magazine. So awasome that It called in to question their utility as game surfaces to play on. personaly I'm pretty happy with with felt roads and styrofoam hills. Painted and flocked of course.
