1.1 Beta 3 Now Available

Post by puresimmer »

OK, more tweaks to the engine and fixes.

This 1.1 update has turned into a huge one (engine-wise). I'd love to get some folks testing some past seasons with both real players and fictional.

DO NOT install this beta if you are not willingo to deal with some beta testing issues / bugs. Wait for the final release. That said, we are pretty much at the final beta here, so barring any crash bugs or big stats engine issues this will pretty much be the release!

Here is the latest readme

Here is the download (only 27mb)

Note: This beta REQUIRES that you have a full install of PureSim 2005 Gold Edition on your computer.

Noticed this in the last beta too...
"Range" rating seems off. I just imported a 1990 league and the following players came back with 100 values for range: Juan Gonzalez, Kevin Mitchell Pete Incavilia, Greg Vaugh.

How is that rating calculated?

The 'stars' seem to be still dominating excessively int his beta, though not as much in past releases--Conigliaro in the Lahman hitting 80 home runs in 1970. Unfortunately, although I backed up the psa, I think it' got erased because I didn't realize the uninstall erased all current psa's. ouch. I think I lost everything. I think the old versions left the psas alone. oh well, my fault.

I wonder if that is an artifact of it being an association upgraded from a previous version.

Was you're 1970 association upgraded or created with 1.1 beta 3?

That stinks about the un-install program, I'll look into that.

I am creating a league with historical players' best seasons. I am having trouble finding all the years for the players, using Lahman's database. Best example: Babe Ruth. I think his 1921 season was better than 1927, but when I try to import him, 1921 and 1930 are missing. Is this fixed in the beta?

I ran an overnight test using a fictional 16 team league on a 162 game schedule. The association was created with this beta, and all games were simmed in an avg park.

Under those conditions, I think the reason why HR production among the stars is too high is because the total HR production far exceeds historical levels. I put together some slides that show the data...

you can find them in this link: SLIDES

I am actually getting closer and closer on this one. Getting historically accurate results with fictional players (based on year) is tricky business. I am actually amazingly happy with the real player results as of beta 3. They are really good.

I have a few more tweaks to make regarding the fictionals but I think you will be very happy. I am also adding a feature to make all of this stuff easier for the lay person to tweak (e.g. not have to go spelunking through an XML file!) See the "New engine tweak UI" thread for more info on that.

What goes into the "range" and "arm" ratings when using real players? Lots of players seem to have 100 for ratings on those two attributes.
