RE: 2/18/42 Happy hunting grounds---- Over?
China situation.....al that's left at kunming is an anti tank gun unit and 47 men.......a good raid, I only wish there was a way for ground units to damage HI........The Northern Offensive is still bogged down at Yenen......not much change in the last month except loadsa dead troops on both sides.....but mostly mine esp. after my last attack on Changsha.

RE: 2/18/42 Happy hunting grounds---- Over?
Burma situation.......Tom has, not suprisingly fought well....a good fighting delaying action means that he had time to reinforce Mytk......Scotts sent some Reinforcements for me, but my goal to close the Burma offensive by 31st March is looking unlikely............

RE: A little look around
Here are the PIs....alos Lews' theatre...if you've been keeping up with fear and loathing, you'll notice not much has changed here in the last month. That is because of the warp bug....we lost the 48th div. which has turned this area into a siege.....progress is being made and when the scant reinforcments reach L. Bay (one snlf) this will be cleared......

RE: A little look around
I really must proof read before posting.....the amount of finger dyslexia is appalling.....my apologies(oh and also for the spelling).............
A cozy campfire scene
As the war drags on this scene is played out around hundreds of rice fires all over the Pacific
"I hear Puerta Princesa has fallen
Really
Yeah
Where the h*lls that
got me"
Tomorrow's another day, or is that Tomorrow never knows?

Another rice fire, south pacific......
"hey, I hear Makale has fallen
really
yeah
was on holiday with the wife there last year
and
nice beach, but no good bars
that's a bugger
your telling me"
Sorry about the slow updating....a mix of crazy/mad/busy at work, and the war getting all bogged down.....

Mistakes, I've made a few
With the end of the first 1/4 of the year....I can now look back at my objectives, and how I've fared......this will cover only China, I will post Burma later. Lew and Scott will perhaps post their theatres later.
China, my main goal was to take Yenen and push inland to take the north of China. This will come as no suprise to any of my PBEM opponents.....I've always favored the northern route. But Yenen has refused to fall......to be frank I'm not sure why, as it always has before. The rest of China is a stalemate, but Tom has recognized how much I have commited to Yenen and is exploring my strength in Central/South China. I am outnumbered there, so we will see.
What to do now?
I'm going to continue to pound Yenen.
I'm going to try to flank Yenen to the North by taking Sining(sp....see map) I've marched one Ind brig. and a Mong. cav. div. to flanking positions. If I can take it, I'll supply by air and fly in a base force. This I hope will make Tom withdraw some troops from Yenen. If not I'll fly in some more combat troops and try to start a general offensive from there. Supply would be a problem.
My mistakes are once more not dealing in hammer blows and commiting my forces piecemeal.
Also, this being a freestyle game I am allowed to move anything from Manchuria, as long as I don't trigger the Russians......I've been slow, i.e. only moving the Mon. cav. divs......I should have moved all the heavy guns/field arty. ...
early on, but didn't. Engineers would also have been usefull and they are still in Manchuria.
My next three months objectives are to take Yenen (again)and then all of northern China, and to release the last SAA units I hold to Lew for use elsewhere.
Modest objectives you may say, but I'm learning that in "fear and loathing" as it most games, it pays to concentrate on a firm objective.

RE: Mistakes, I've made a few
Ahhhh....Burma.
Once again my 1/4s objectives unmet.
I won't take Mytk.... in the next ten days.
In fact, who knows when I'll take it....the two Divs. I borrowed from Scott may be too little, too late.......
I would think about flanking Mytk... by invading India, but our other theatres in FNL require all our fleet assets, so that is not an option.
My main mistake here was with my air assets, which I (wait for it) commited piecemeal. Tom, as always, used his air assets with aggression, and although he lost more plans than me...he could afford to lose them.....I couldn't... the upshot is that Tom has air supremacy in the short turm while my air units refit.
My plans for this 1/4 are to take Chengtu with both para regs. ( this will be a much larger scale attack than my raid on Kunming earlier in the war) and move additional troops overland to support.
To take Mytk... if I can.
And wait until I can get my hands on a fleet carrier or three..........
Tom's fight hard, then withdraw has served him well.

Hope springs........
Sining has fallen to my flanking attack and is now held by 1 Mong cav div and an Ind brigade. (see map above)
I'll now supply by air and fly in a base force.
In time if Yenen continues to hold on I'll fly in more troops to push south.....cutting off his troops at Yenen.

[X(][:@] Wondering where the rest of the 18th Division will unload.[:@][&:] They were supposed to unload at Medan, instead they make an appearance at Ferguson Island, some 2000 miles away.[X(][:@]

RE: Mistakes, I've made a few
March 27th 1942
A quiet day dominated by massive allied airstrikes....esp. at Singapore where a CL was badly damaged......the allies are using Palambang and Batavia to hit us hard in Malaya, delaying operations. Having said that Madang should soon fall...........
With the end of the month approaching maps and scores shall appear....so watch this space.

Bollocks
It's the 1st of April 1942........
and here is China and Burma in a nutshell......
Tom saw my para drop coming after my earlier raid.....int. let me down and we found too many Chinese to force the issue, only about half the Paras dropped, so those who did will have to march out.

RE: Bollocks
2nd April 1942........
Massive air to air combat over Port Moresby dominated today's proceedings......
With at least 100 allied fighters and 200+ Japanese fighters and bombers involved......
The result was one allied AK badly damaged 30+ runway hits on PM, and around 50 planes lost to both sides......
Kuala in Northern Sumatra fell today....this means all of Sumatra north of palembang is in Jap. hands.....
