Questions About This Game
Hello everyone, I'm thirteen and interested in historical warfare. I came across this game and went to the site. After reading the features, I am still confused about a few things.
1) It said that a player can be up to 8 empires. Does this mean that you choose one, and other human players fill up the other seven empires? Or you just choose one, and the other nations are the computers?
2) Is every year a different campaign, or is it all just one campaign from 1799-1820?
And a question for the younger players (prefferably around my age), is the game hard? I read it, and some of the economy controlling parts seems a little hard. Is it?

RE: Questions About This Game
Up to 8 people can play. If it is just you, then the computer would play all other nations. If you have 2 players, the computer takes the other 6 nations, etc.
There are differecnt scenarios, that begin at different years. 1792, 1796, 1805 and 1812 are the starting periods I believe. You can alter the length of the scenarios as you like. You can make them last from 6 months to 20 years.
I am much older than you, so the last question is hard to answer. If you are an experienced war gamer, then you may not have any problems. The learning curve can be hard for some, but visiting the forums, reading the rules and asking questions for explanations on here, should help you get through it.
Eric, the game designer, is on here all the time, and is constantly improving the game, fixing bugs, adding features, etc.
I bought this to tide me over till EIA came out, but in many ways, I find this game better than EIA. Just a few things are needed and could be added to make this thing exceptional.

RE: Questions About This Game
Thanks, Suvorov
I have another question though...
1792, 1796 for example; Does that mean the 1792 campaign immedietly stops at 1796? Or can you continue up until the final year?
And if it stops at 1796, can you continue exactly how you left off when you go off to the next campaign?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Questions About This Game
I am pretty sure those are just the start years, and they do not end when the start year for another scenario is hit. You can set the game length when starting a game. I am pretty certain nothing would carry over from one scenario to the next.

RE: Questions About This Game
I was browsing and saw some posts. I came across Hard Sarge's post and his attachment. It said Armee I, and for the strength it said 149 k/ 270 k. What does the 270 k mean?
Also, it said something like 2nd cavalry, and the strength was 9232. I think that means the amount of men. But later it says there is a lot more casualties. Can someone explain?
(I don't have the game...yet, I am just very interested.)

The 149k is the strength of the army, and the 270k is the theoretical maximum strength that it can attain.

It is an excellent game, Philmasse13. It takes a little time to learn, but is not that difficult after a little practice. I think this is the best computer wargame I have ever purchased.

Much appreciation for info, guys.
RE: Questions About This Game
I am now 50 but started playing serious wargames when I was about 14. Don't be intimidated. If you like history, then 13 is a great age to start serious wargaming. You are old enough. Just ask for help here. Perhaps advertise for another younger player to go head to head against. They are around. Have fun.

I must have started when I was about 11 or 12. Tactics II and Victory in the Pacific were my first titles.

Me too... my first game was Avalon Hill's Gettysburg (Hex version) followed by Tactics II, D-Day, and finally Chancellorsville. Ah, those were the days... got them for $2.77 each at a local drug store. To this day I have no explanation for what wargames were doing in the toy aisle of a drug store! I bought them out, one game at a time over a period of months with my 50 cent a week allowance. List price back then was $4.95 for their games.

I would be equally surprised if I came across drugs on the shelves of a games outlet. [:'(]

Hi Phil,
k=1,000; "Armee I" has a current strength of 149,000 out of a possible limit of 270,000. Strength is more-or-less a measure of men in the unit, but for cavalry and artillery it is also an abstract measure of guns and horses.

RE: Questions About This Game
oh wonderful, more younglings are coming on here. Phil I'm 16 now, but I started frequenting these forums when I was 14, so just a little older than you. At the time I had just bought "Korsun Pocket" and was discovering matrix for the first time. Trust me, this game is very very easy when compared with other matrix titles. That doesnt mean that the game has no depth, its just that if you dont want to do everything yourself, the game handles it for you. So if you have no interest in micromanaging the economy of your empire, just want to overlook the basics, then the game will handle these aspects for you. Just don't expect to get everything exactly the way you want it if you do this. I found the learning curve very easy. When I first turned on the thing, I couldn't make heads or tails of it, but after 2 hours with the manual (sounds like a long time but patience young grasshopper), i was poping around the different menus easily.
Buy it, it's worth it.
