Just found this excellent wargame

Post by Panzerclaret »

Hi,

I only discovered this excellent game last week, and its proving to be very, very addictive. Just a quick post to ask if its any relation to the supreme boardgame "Russian Front" which was out in the early '90's.

Cracking game isn't it, and I must have missed it first time it came out.

Any obvious tips?

The AI is a very bad player, so if you want to have a fun game, play PBEM. Although, you should first beat the AI a couple of times to learn the game.

Thanks!

It does seem somewhat predicatable.

Still on my first game due to time constraints, but I got a bit of a shock on the first blizzard turn, though the Soviets did nothing to exploit it. Its does seem a bit overpowered though, as it smashed about four corps.

Take a look at this recent thread if you'd like to see opinions on those strange Blizzard algorythms in the program...

Makes sense, though I've pulled back in areas which I don't mind losing, and the Russian player is just sitting there.

Maybe I've hurt him a lot more than I thought?

Soviet AI is very stupid and lousy.

As Germans 1941 I used to stop my advances in early November - the result was Soviets didn't even try to attack my forces... Thus I did nothing, time passed by, my army was untouched, rested and ready to attack in summer 1942 again.

Exactly what I did in my recent "Alternative Barbarossa".
Despite the sometimes cranky AI, WIR still is a fascinating game.
