Game Freeze

So I'm running an association in gold with fictional players and I made it to 1879. But about halfway through the season, the game just froze. After restarting it, I can look up PSPN issues, go to the almanac, check the standings, all that good stuff, but whenever I try to sim a game (really any action with a game) or run in unattended autoplay, it locks up. I think part of the problem is that some teams don't have full rosters, but when I tried to get them to sign a scrub to fill them out, I get a warning that the rules say a team can't resign a player it has released that season. I get that for every player for every team. I can't even trade them extra players.

Any thoughts?

There are problems pre-1900 with just a lack of players (to the point where the latest patch does not support pre-1900)
