Allied Opponent Wanted - Sc 15 or Equivalent

Post by scout1 »

Looking for an Allied Opponent to play the entire war, however long it takes.
Sc 15 or equivalent (Nik's mod, CKK's, CHS (though I haven't loaded this one))

2 day turns
Highly Variable Reinforcements
Historical 1st turn off

Everything else open for discussion

I am new to the game. I am playing my first game as the allies at the moment and feel that the AI is missing opportunities to hurt me. I can see it is going to piss me off pretty soon, so I would really like a human opponent. I am happy to lose as long as I am learning, but have a lot of experience of other war games. I am running the basic game updated with patch 1.6 at the moment, but will adjust to suit you. Would you be prepared to give me a go?

Sounds fine to me, though we have some house keeping tasks to clear up......
Look things over and let me know what you think.

Game Version : I'm currently patched to v1.73b (and holding until stability is achieved
v1.8 ?)
Game Scenario : If you're not hardpressed for CHS (which I didn't load), I'm inclined for
either a stock Sc 15 or Nik's Mod of Sc 15 or Ckk;s mod of Sc 15

Combat animation : Off
Combat reports (in game) : Off
(Note : If you haven't done a pbem yet, the settings for the reports/animation are set
by the japanese player for BOTH sides. Thus, once off, always off. I typically let the combat replay go on it's own to completion and then review the action offline with Bodhi's Utility (I nice tool to have if you don't have it now)

Turn Cycle : 2
sub doctrine: off
fog of war: on
advanced weather: on
allied damage control: on
historical first turn: No
player defined upgrades: off (unless you really want to try this)
vary setup: off
Dec 7 surprise: on
auto sub: off
upgrades, expansions, replacements: all off

House Rules
asw tf's limited to 6 ships
no attacks on allied carrier forces on turn one
only one port attack on turn one
no allied orders issued to ships (other than ones currently at sea) and aircraft on turn one

Hi

Thanks for agreeing to give me a chance. Where will I be able to get v1.73b? Stock Sc 15 on that version will be fine.

Where will I find Bodhi's Utility, please?

What will the effect of the "player defined upgrades: off" be?

What effect will "upgrades, expansions and replacements: all off" be?

Apologies if these seem like stupid questions, but the easiest way for me to learn will be to understand the thinking behind the selections.

I am happy with the 6 ship ASW tf limit. I am happy with the no attacks on allied carriers on turn one (especially as you'll know where they are through play experience!). As you are the aggressor, with the advantage of surprise, I would not object to you attacking more ports on turn one. I would prefer to be able to give orders to my ships and aircraft on turn one. I am sure the news of surprise attacks would get around pretty quick and most commanders would have an idea what they would do in the event of war. If this is a big issue for you, perhaps we could negotiate certain units, for example any unit at an attacked base or with the same area HQ, being able to take orders, but uninvolved or unrelated units staying "frozen" until turn 2?

PM me your email address and I'll email you the v1.73b patch.

Search the forum for a post originated by Bodhi, at the bottom of any message he posts is a download link for the utility. Should come with a readme file, which I believe will have you also download (from Microsoft) a free program (needed for hiw tool). I'd put the link here if I knew how to do it.

player defined upgrades was a feature added (at players request) to permit the player to choose the upgrade path for aircraft, rather than the "historical" one in the game. Basically permits the player to custom design his air assets.

The upgrades/replacement/expansions on/off is a global switch to set all units/locations to a common mode. You can override this on a unit-by-unit basis. Could start with them on, but then I'll end up going through all my units to turn off. The Japanese player needs to be selective where to apply valuable, limited resources.

There are NO stupid questions, I used them all up long ago. [;)]

The house rules we'll hash out as soon as we get you up to the latest version, etc ....
