RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 6. Tarakan falls on Borneo, 1388 allies captured. Allied air forces withdraw from Balikpapan, presumably because the 38th division has moved into the hex.
Landings on Sumatra north and south of Palembang at Jambi and Teloekbetoeng. No airstrikes from Soerabaja today either. Presumably because the 56th div has advanced into this hex. SS Saury put a fish into an empty Jap AP east of Java. She will make port.
11 Hudsons escorted by 2 Bewsters raid eastern Timor from Darwin.
Daily raids and bombardment of Manila continues. An allied attempt to drive the 18th back out of Manila again failed. Jap attack by the 8th armored at Vigan failed.
The final pieces of the Singapore assult force moved into the city today. Expect attacks on the 9th, the 12, and finally falling on the 15th as predicted.
6 Mongolian cav divs attacked a Chinese division at the crossroad NE of Yenen at 89:1 driving it back with heavy losses. The Chinese north flank is now open and vunerable to encirclement. Hopefully the allied player will continue his push to the SE leaving himself open to defeat in detail. He attacked the blocking force to Wuhan at 3:1 driving it into the fortified city and inflicting 1132 casulties to the attackers.
Port Moresby fell to the 2nd div and 56th bde. 10,393 men and 31 guns fell into captivity.
RECON REPORTS:
A TF is moving from PH to SF about 8 hexes from SF.
3 TFs operating in the Palmyra area, chasing my recon boats around. Christmas appears empty.
3 TFs at Pago-Pago but only 1 ground unit at the base. Doesnt seem to be a staging base, as nothing seems to be moving towards Aus. No positive ship IDs yet. Possibly an ASW base simular to Palmyra, but the ships here arent cashing my subs like at Palmyra.
Midway is recieving reinforcements. 4 ground units there now, 5000+ men. Probably a RCT. 3 TFs in that area as well. Mavis' from Wake watching this base.
5 TFs at Sydney. They have been comming and going from here for quite some time now. Clearly this is his point of entry for units entering Oz.
My shadow is back in Burma. He has had 1 unit running away in front of my units there from the begining. A few turns ago, it disappeared up the rail north of Mandalay, but now its back.
7 air losses today. 3 Nates.

7 Jan. Jambi and Teloekbetoeng fall without resistance.
His PTs finally find something south of Java and manage 1 torp hit on an AP carrying part of a base force for Java. Less than 40% damage, so shes fine.
Mandalay bombed again with no hits by the RAF.
Hudsons from Darwin put 2 bombs into an AP east of Timor.
Allied forces in Manila and eastern Malaya both banzii charge to no effect again today.
Lt(jg) Ota of F1/Tainan became the first double ace today flying cover for TF 81 bringing troops and supplies to Timor.

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 8. CLASH of the TITANS, part III 6 Jap PTs meet the 6 Dutch TMs south of Java. The Japs are paddling faster than the Dutch (as I am sure both TFs are out of fuel) and they score 1 hit each on TM9, TM11, TM14, and 3 hits on TM15! Aoba hits a mine during bombardment support at Soerabaja and she takes 13 hits from the shore guns. She might not make it home.
16 P40s made a sweep at Ichang hitting nothing. 17th Mxd bde probed the allied defenses at 42,40 (west of Canton).
RAF missed Mandalay again. 2nd Burma attacked the 1st armored in Mandalay. 178 allies lost to 0 Japs.
4 APs were hit at Lautern as they arrived to pick up the 21st bde. Troops hadnt yet loaded, and all ships will make port.
Troops shock attacked the 8th armored in Vigan again today driving the armor back again. 115 allies and a gun to 5 Japs.
20 aircraft downed today. 5 Claudes led the list.

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 9. Very slow news day. Chinese air units getting hyper-active. P40s running sweeps on Ichang and SB2s bombing ground troops. The 17th Mxd bde is bounced back to where it started.
Continued allied air attacks on eastern Timor.
A training flight of Nells strikes bases on NG from Rabul.
2nd Burma chased out of Mandalay by the 1st armored at 23:1.
13 air losses.
Since the Japs have virtually nothing for signals intell, you have to rely on your air recon to find out what is going on. Here is the current map with my air search bases marked.

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 10. PHASE I COMPLETE Singapore falls to 15th Army today, 5 days ahead of schedule. 171,603 Japs attacked at 6:1. Engineers reduced the fort to 3 before the attack. 2122 Jap casulties, 43 guns, and 1 vehicle. We bagged 69,074 men, 213 guns and 4 vehicles.
Phase II was scheduled to be complete Mar 1, and is nearly complete right now. Port Moresby and Java, and mopping up of the oil centers is what I call "phase II".
Blenheims hit some more of the oil in Mandalay today. 1st armored chased 2nd Burma back another 60 miles. 33 allies and 4 guns to nothing [:)]
The Clark Air Academy changes target and starts bombing Vigan.
More air attacks in eastern Timor which boosts PO1 Yoshimura of F2/Tainan's total to double digits. Japan now has 2 double aces!
2 armor regts of the Panzer Corps attack at Tjilitjap at 3:1. 63 allied casulties to zero Japs, and forts are reduced to 0. It falls tomorrow.
The other 3 regiments of Panzer Corps Pacifica are advancing on Palembang from the south. They should be in the city in 2-3 days. V Adm K Yamamoto is no longer in command of TF4, Capt Kojima (captain of the Nagato) is. V Adm Hosogaya is assuming command and heading to Palembang for gunfire support.
Hmm. Doing a quick check. Naguma no longer in command of TF 1, captain of the Shokaku is. Captain of the Zuikaku is in command of TF 2. TF 3 and TF 5 have their assigned commanders.
TF 6 is missing, as is TF 7, TF 11, TF 12, TF 14, TF 19, TF 20. Not going to look at the remaining 30 TFs that had commanders assigned.
only 11 air losses today.

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 11. Not a good day to be in the IJN fighter training school. 56 Claudes were jumped by 13 P40s and the score was 21 to 0.
Dutch TMs put a torp into an AP SE of Java. Damage was light. As predicted, Tjilitjap fell to 2 regiments of the Panzer Corps at 6:1. Exactly 1600 allies to 15 Japs. The base east of there (Djokjakarta) falls to air assult. Soerbaja is now the only base left on Java. 16th and 56th divisions are in the hex. 4th division should be there tomorrow. 3 divisions isnt enough to take them out, but will launch a probe and maybe knock a few forts out.
Blenheim raid on Mandalay again 1 hit on oil. 1st armored punted 2nd Burma back another 60 miles. We are now adjacent to Myitkyina. There are 11 allied units in the base, not counting 2nd Burma. 90 allies lost to 18 Japs.
The PA refuses to go quietly into the night and shock attacks 18th div yet again at 4:1 driving it back to Clark again. Experience for this units is already up to 92 thanks to his efforts. 1407 attackers along with 37 guns and 3 vehicles lost to 224 Japs.
only 8 aircraft were lost today. Not counting the 22 Claudes [:(]
S-40 sank about 300 miles west of Wake. Cause of death is listed as type 95 d/c. Must have been hit near Manila sometime. I dont remember when though.

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 13. Landings continue at Balikapapan and Bali. Bali falls bagging 1308 Dutchies to no loss.
TF 4 (again under command of the Nagatos skipper) bombards Palembang. He assassinated another Admiral and I am not going to worry about leaders from this point on. Im sure once I use up all the admirals, I will get a Marine 2nd Lt in command so screw it.
Landings at 2 of the dot bases north of Rabul.
Blens hit Mandalay again.
Training planes attack Vigan. 2 Allied units have moved out of his defenses in Manila. 1 east and 1 north.
Baker Is falls without incident.
8 air losses. 2 Mavis.

Jan 15. Aoba sank from the mine/shore gun hits back on Jan 8. She was 1 hex away from Tarakan.
61 Sallys escorted by 27 Nates met 16 I-153's over Wuchow. 9 Chinese fighters shot down to 1 bomber, 1 fighter. A follow up raid by 45 Oscars lost 1 and killed 9 more. Scratch 1 Chin squadron.
Blens hit another oil at Mandalay.
A landing force approaching New Calidona escorted by TF1 (Akagi) put 8 bombs and a torpedo into Le Triomphant. Scout planes added insult to injury by putting another bomb into her before she sank. 3 ailled TFs NE of NC about 300 miles, and 4 TFs in Noumena. BB Colorado and CA Chicago are both confirmed to be there. 7 enemy TFs at Pago-Pago.
APD 39 makes several attacks on the hunted O-19 in the narrows between Borneo and Celbes, hitting her 5 times and starting a fire. If she doesnt sink, at least she will be in the barn for a while. Balikapapan fell. 8964 allies to 306 Japs. Borneo is now completely in Imperial hands. You just have to love the combat report from the 2nd attack:

Jan 17. 1 Zero, 5 Nates, and 1 Sally were lost over Wuchow taking 7 P40s of the AVG with them. Maj Nakamura of 64th Ftr driving a NATE is Japans 7th ace with 5 kills.
Blens raid Mandalay to no effect.
Landings begin on New Calidonia at La Foa. Allies dodge another bullet as Akagi and co is under a rain cloud yet again. 2 days in a row I had him dead to rights with a "partly cloudy" forcast and ended up in the soup. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Jap 33rd div and 4th Mxd rgt took out the remaining allied troops in Malaya today. 50:1 attack netted 14,869 troops and 42 guns for 53 Jap casulties.
Jap 18th div and friends attacked at Clark. Allied troops entered the area from Manila prior to the attack so it went in at 0:1. 222 allied casulties to 914 Japs. All aircraft have been evacuated from Clark, and 2 bdes that have nothing else to do at the moment are on the way to PI. I am going to be standing down for 2 or 3 weeks after the Java operation to rest the troops and prepare bases for the next push anyway so no biggie.
Clearing out some dot bases and unoccupied bases in Coral Sea and NEI.
27 aircraft. 7 P40s lead the shoot-downs.

Jan 20. Jap troops landing at Lombok (SE of Java).
28 Oscars and 40 Sallys raid Kweiyang again (not sure why such a small number of fighters flew) to "Jap-slap" the AVG again, but no one home. Other front line airfields in China that he had a squadron each at bugged out also.
Blens return to Mandalay for no effect.
Troops unloading at Babo (north of Darwin on New Guinea). 15 Hudsons attack scoring 3 hits total on 2 ships.
Training flight from Singapore hits Sinkeep Is with 78 Bettys and 25 Sallys.
2 Hudsons from Noumea attack Mutsu for no effect at La Foa.
20,000 Allied troops crossed the river from Clark to Lingayen attacking at 15:1 and scattering the engineers there to San Marcelino.
9 aircraft lost today. All of them op losses. Some of the more interesting: MiG 3, Seagull, and a Topsy. [:D]
CL Phoenix sank from damage from the surface battle a few days ago. 14" gun was listed as cause of death.
APD 34 sank in Tarakan harbor after being there almost a week [:@] credit to a 250lb bomb.

Jan 22. TF 15 (2 CL, 5 DD) engage PT 38 and PT 40 at Akyab and both PTs are sunk. Bombardment of the base destroyed a PBY.
Landings at Kuala by 81 Nav Gd.
Landings at Vigan by the elite 23rd Mxd bde. Part of the unit lands at Lingayen with the 17th Mxd bde. The allies have divided their forces in the PI having spread out over 5 hexes. I intend to occupy at least 4 of the 5 and chop him up piecemeal. Step 1 is to park forces he cant dislodge on all of them. Then kill them off, 1 by 1. He has 21 units in Manila, but there cant be many combat units there.
Both sides toss artillery at each other at Soerabaja.

24 Jan. More landings at Vigan and Lingayen, air assult at Clark was supposed to coordinate with 14th Army moving into the hex. Only elements of the 17th bde did. 433 and 8 guns lost by the assult force. The rest of the army should be there tomorrow, guess I should have waited a day. 3 Sallys were lost over Manila for 1 PBY and some troops. Light damage to airfield. B17s scored hits on an AV and a PG. Both should make port. Allies bombard at Vigan and lose 18 and a gun of their own and inflict no damage to friendly units [:D]
Blens raid Mandalay again for no effect.
An ASW group went hunting I-23 NE of Pago-Pago. DD Barker took 2 torpedos and sank. No attacks on the sub [:)]

RE: YH v IS2m Dark Days
Jan 25. More of the 23rd unloads at Vigan. Allies shock attack at 0:1. 555 attackers lost for 51 defenders. This part worked well. Allied shock attack at Lingayen at 7:1. I underestimated his force here, but no matter. I am capable of pinning him down until more troops arrive. 163 attackers lost for 182 defenders. 17th bde retreats to San Marcelino. Attack at Clark as well. I knew this was comming and I knew what the result would be. Distresses me that 14th Army hasnt moved in yet. 13:1 attack caused 219 casulties to 117 of the attackers. Retreat to Bataan. A scout plane scored a lucky hit on the damaged AV that was headed to Hong Kong. She is probably sunk now, but I got her airgroup off. Sallys raid Manila. Zeros didnt fly on the sweep however. Going to have to discuss this with unit commanders family.
Blens raid Mandalay again to no effect.
Akagi group raids Brisbane looking for BB Colorado (this is the only place she could be as subs havent sighted her in the Sydney area). 20 VF, 49 VA, and 66 VT hit the BB 5 times and cause other port damage. 36 allied fighters of mixed types intercept. Air strike from Brisbane of 9 Bforts and 16 oddball fighters strike back against a 44 plane CAP. 4 Bforts get through and 1 hits Soryu. Damage is moderate. She is operatable, but has a small fire aboard that worries me.
Kaga group launches a strike at a TF at Pago-Pago. 22 VF, 24 VA, and 51 VT in the first strike hit 10 different AKs, 1 DD, and 1 MSW. Another strike of 22 VF and 7 VA hits a DD twice. A follow-up strike of 29 VA and 45 VT is intercepted by 3 F4Fs, and 9 planes are shot down. 1 allied pilot was credited with 8 planes. 8 AKs and 1 DD is hit. Another strike of 19 VT intercepted by 3 F4Fs hits a MSW for no losses. Several of the ships sank. Elements of the 7th Marine DB were rescued. 6 ground units now on Pago-Pago.
19 Val, 10 P40e, 10 Kate, 7 Hawk 75, 6 Hurricane, 6 F4F, and 22 other aircraft lost today.
Allied ships sunk:
1 BC (Repulse), 2 CA (Louisville, Chicago), 6 CL (Leander, Achilles, Adelaide, Danae, Marblehead, Phoenix), 21 DD, 3 PG, 17 PT, 2 AS, 2 AV, 1 AVD, 1 DMS, 12 MSW, 3 SS, 2 AO, 4 TK, 29 AK, 6 AP
Jap ships sunk:
1 CA (Aoba), 3 DD, 2 APD, 4 MSW, 5 PC, 13 AP, 13 AK
Edit: FINALLY the 56th bde has moved into Noumea. It falls tomorrow. The speed of my ground units here and in the PI seems to be moving at 1/2 speed.
