I particularly like this one. Amagi as she would have appeared in 1925 and then Amagi as she may have appeared in 1944. Pretty cool stuff!

This one from the first link above would have actually met Treaty limitations. What if the Japanese had built her?

Image
Admiral Hiraga designed most of the ships that vaulted the IJN into prominence right after WW I. All the battleships of the "8-8" programme, including the Nagato, Akagi,Tosa, Owari, and "#13-16" (my Kii) class were designed by him, as well as the Myoko class cruisers and many other smaller ships. Above is his only design that fit within Treaty tonnage. Various reasons prevented it from being built, but by the time Japan was ready to build battleships again, newer designs took precedence.

Displacement 38,000 tons
Armament 10 x 16"/45 (2 doubles, 2 triples)
4 x 2 5"/50 DP, + AA
Speed 29 knots
VTS Rating 5 5 5

And what if the US had taken Billy Mitchel seriously and then taken one or two of those Omaha class cruisers and converted them into CVEs back in the 30s?

Already used that page myself for my mod. Be nice, and ask the author's permission first.

I sent Mr. Furashita a/k/a Craig Burke an e-mail last night (er...rather this morning) while I was browsing the web site. Haven't heard back yet. I couldn't find an e-mail address for the other site, only a guest book. Which ships did you use for your mod? I particularly like the idea of giving Australia a CVE Melbourne in the early stages of the war(created out of a hypothetically converted Hawkins Class Cruiser). [:)]

Only used my version of the Aratama class battlecruiser. Got Cobra to make me a ship side for it, did some qualified guesswork on the data for it, and there it was! Going to have a couple of them as fast escorts for the KB, freeing up the fast battleships for other duties.

Hey Gary!

I actually have that Amagi in my scenario (once again, Cobra is a God [&o]). Permission was asked for o'course..

Amagi and Atago swing at anchor at Cam Ranh Bay. They're fast, powerful and nasty ships. [:D]

The Omaha and Hawkins conversions have always interested me - the Hawkins-carriers especially, because the RN really could have used them in 40-42.

Here's my little foray into this area:

This is the Aratama as she looks on 12/7/41. Obviously, there's a couple of AA upgrades scheduled. As I said, there's one sister ship, which I've called the Kaminari.

Six 18" guns and 35 knots? It's the bombardment vessel from Hell! [X(]

Looks like you beat me in victory points.. Kudos. [:D]

Nah... What's 6 measly points between buds?[:D]

Besides, yours is more survivable than mine. Can't be heavy AND fast at the same time...

True, true. Still.. NOT a ship you'd want to see coasting over the horizon! [:D]

BTW I just got the final art needed for Iron Storm - plane tops from TheElf, which are absolutely fantastic - so after implementing them and making sure there are no extremely obvious bugs a beta will be shooting your way.

Some great ships. Now I have mod envy. [:D] I hope Mr. Burke e-mails me back soon so I can either start anticipating what ships to put in the mod or else cry because he won't let me do it. I finally found the e-mail address for the other site as well and have sent a request for permission to incorporate his ships in my mod. [:)]

Gracias...[8D]

In my mod, the KB consists of eight large carriers, so I can split them into a pair of extremely powerful divisions, with an Aratama in each to be escort boss.
