could it be the Gloster Meteor, altough the downing of another jet-fighter did not occur until the Korean War?

yep!

terje439 and Froonp are now tied at 2 wins each.

The Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star first flew in January 1944 using a borrowed British de Havilland turbojet and was deployed to Italy late in the war without seeing combat. Renamed as the F-80 it was deployed in Korea during the Korean War but by that time it had been superceded as an air superiority fighter by the F-86 Sabre. On November 8th 1950, an F-80C shot down a Mig-15 in the world's first jet fighter air battle. Top speed was 967kph with an armament of six 12.9mm machine guns and eight rockets or a 900kg bombload.

another competition tomorrow... or the day after... depending on diaper patrol
