Night Intruder Missions

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Night Intruder Missions

Post by nelmsm1 »

Trying BTR again since it is being redone. What is the best way to use night intruder missions? I'm not scoring much success with them. Not sure if it my planning or if I'm just having trouble getting the timing down.

First, for intruders that you want in the bomber stream:
1. Plan your bombing mission, then click done.
2. Plan your intruder mission, using follow to make sure the fighters fly the same route. click done .
3. Go to review missions and compare the TOT for the bombers and the intruders. Go into the missions using modify and adjust start time so that the TOT for the intruders are equal to or later than the bombers. I will often use singles or groups of 3 intruders in the bomber stream timed in multiple separate missions spaced out over several minutes after the first bomber is scheduled to hit the target. If you space the intruders out over about a twenty minute window from first bomb on target to TOT+20, you will have fighters in the stream supporting the later arriving bombers, and also mixed in with the night fighters that are chasing down the screen. This works pretty well in most cases, and you will see the occaisional kill. It also helps your stragglers as the the nightfighters have something to watch out for as well as the bombers they are hunting. If you do not adjust your TOT after looking on the review missions screen, the intruders will often speed to the target, passing the bombers and be gone before the night fighters show up and start hitting the bombers.

The other method is to put intruders over enemy airfields about 30 minutes thru 90 minutes after the TOT for the bombing raid. This way, you can get easy kills as the german night fighters return to base to land. If you have an intruder in place over a field as the german returns to land, you have a good chance at multiple kills.

Those are the main tactics that I use. I am sure others will have more.

Hi seydlitz

well, lets get the terms right first

the Night Fighters should fly with the bombers, which I agree with most of your statements, but also the NF's should fly at a little lower alt then the bombers (if the GE NF's have slant music, they will try and fly under the bombers to make there attacks)

the Night Intruders should fly to the bases

of course with these, you need timing, you got to figure out how long they will be able to patrol over the base, and if you want to reinforce that base or not

NI's can be the biggest pain in the game, you can spend "hours" plotting them, only to find out that the GE has moved his NF's to new bases

when they work, they are great, when they don't, they are worthless

lot of work was done on the NF to try and get them to get more attacks during a mission, it was looking good, but then backed off again, so that is on the list of things to check, as over all, the NF is not a good deal
