Amazing what one little mine can do...

RE: War Report - 12th of June, 1922
The citizens of Shanghai today bore witness to the full might and fury of the Imperial battlefleet's power, as our ships smashed the enemy's so-called "China Squadron". In a tempest of shells and torpedoes, all five enemy vessels that came out to do battle were put under the waves. Subsequently, our battlecruisers bombarded enemy installations ashore, before retiring victoriously.
On a more sombre note, the battlecruiser Kongo, whilst taking part in the battle, was struck by an explosion which caused serious damage to her. Preliminary investigations have hinted at an electrical problem in one of the machinery spaces.
(PS: the explosion aboard the Kongo was caused by a torpedo hit from one of Bill's destroyers, but I don't think the Japanese Naval Ministry would just come out and admit that...[;)])

Picking a page from my opponent's playbook, here's the Kongo after the Battle of Shanghai Roads:

Our old foe S-8 once again appeared off Batan Island, and was once again inconclusively engaged by our ASW forces. More ships have been sent to once and for all eliminate this tedious enemy.
Elsewhere, battlecruiser Kongo pulled into port at <censored> harbour. Wearing her battle scars with pride, she moored at pier#11, where repair yard workers from <censored> were already waiting to get to work on her.

(PS: this picture is from 1929, but I couldn't find a good harbour shot of her from earlier).

(OoC)
Got a little carried away, and sent some ships to look for trouble in Hong Kong. Somebody had been very inconsiderate and MINED the place, and as a result, the Japanese have lost their first ship of the war.
Elsewhere, I got bit in the ass by the River Crossing Shock Attack Rule in Cotabato. Grmbl... 1600 casualties vs. 4 for Bill... Grmbl... Payback...
Oh well, going to take a bit longer until Final Victory(TM) in Mindanao.

Moving right along...
Several actions today. Off Hangchow, a force of Japanese pre-dreadnoughts engaged the previously damaged Chinese cruiser Hai Chou. Curiously, and presumably due to the very long range (24-26,000 yards), both of the achieved 25cm hits bounced off.
Furthermore, en route to Hangchow, the battleship Mishishima hit a mine outside Shanghai, and was forced to break off the mission and retire.
On land, our forces have reached the Bataan area. Finding it lightly occupied, our soldiers are shaking themselves out for an attack tomorrow. At Cotabato, Imperial Army troops commenced the methodical ejection of enemy forces from the town. We are optimistic that the battle will be over quite shortly.
