The enemy continues to make a nuisance of himself in several places.

Off Batan Island, the S-8 continues its Dance of Futility against our destroyers. Everytime it sticks its nose out to attack, our ships drive it under before it can fire, and everytime they do, they immediately lose contact, and so can not depth charge it. Tremendously frustrating.

On land, good news and bad. Our forces at Bataan took control of the abandoned Corregidor coastal defence fort, thereby opening Manilla Bay for our naval traffic. At Cotabato, however, the enemy, in the form of the Philippino army Reserve Division, continues to resist. They are only postponing the inevitable.

(PS: of course Bataan wasn't completely abandoned, since the CD fort can't move. But, in RL, the guns would most likely have been spiked and left behind by their crews.)

Annoying incident off Takao today. A force of Chinese cruisers and destroyers, including the previously damaged (and preternaturally lucky Hai Chou) appeared out of nowhere, stumbling over one of my AD's and comprehensively sinking her:



You think you brought enough firepower there, Bill?[;)] Their Chinese good fortune will soon be replaced by Interesting Times!

The sinking of a mere AD may seem to be inconsequential, but when you consider how small the bases on Formosa are, it suddenly becomes irritating, which was why it was on its way there in the first place.

Elsewhere, we have commenced a massive artillery bombardment of the enemy lines at Cotabato. They will feel the might of our heavy guns for a while, before the next, and final, assault.

The Chinese cruisers who showed up at Takao yesterday have been sighted heading west, instead of east as expected. Veeeery interesting...

In the submarine playpen west of Batan Island, a new kid came out to get boinked: the S-2 was hit by a single depth charge from our destroyers. Probably the prelude to about a week of fruitless back-and-forth like with the S-8. Speaking of which... our troops at Corregidor sighted a USN submarine moving towards Manilla. Mayhap our old foe?

At Cotabato, our artillery bombardment continues, but seemingly with fewer enemy casualties. Have they learned to duck since yesterday?

Very action-packed turn today. We found the Chinese cruisers in the night south-west of Formosa, and engaged them with a destroyer flotilla. A confused and drawn-out action followed, resulting in severe damage to a number of Chinese ships and the sinking of the Japanese destroyer Tanikaze.

Later, light cruiser Oi and her attending destroyers found the enemy ships, but were out of position and failed to inflict any significant damage.

Elsewhere, more Japanese troops landed at Lamon Bay, signalling the start of the second phase of our offensive on Luzon.

Back to the game... Those pesky Chinese cruisers have disappeared again, and we're sending forces to find and finish them.

On land, there's been action in Lamon Bay, which our troops took control of with no resistance. At Cotabato, the last enemy defence line was broken today, and the Philippino forces retreated along the road to Cagayan.

Are there many Japs on wake?

Not sure how many Japs on Wake. 10,000 originally invaded. We have seen some intel that suggests troop ships were travelling West from Wake but whether these were taking troops out of Wake or were empty having just delievered them is uncertain. Or maybe they wer just sh***ing themselves and running away when 10 BBs were spotted on the horizon[:D]

With 10 BB's around wake, should be pretty safe to retake wake, can u do that? Those bombardment casualties are pretty low at the moment. Perhaps they will improve with some recon, then u should be able to kill alot more.

His problem won't be sea strength, but land strength. He doesn't have a lot of troops that can be put over a beach this early in the game. But we'll see what happens...
