Gotta say, America's Army was a disappointment for me. Maybe I was just unlucky in choosing the servers I logged on to, but they seemed to be full of little kids running around in a free-for-all killfest; not a HINT of small unit tactics anywhere.

Well my experience was far better. Depends on servers and maps.

The honour system helps aswell.

The new special forces add a lot to the game aswell.

Americas Army is decent for a free game. I had fun with it for a couple of weeks but lost interest in it. I have BF2 but you know how that goes, the campyness and unrealstic approch of the game throws me off of it. Right now I'm going my second route which is sitting in front of the couch playing PS2 (currently have NBA 06 in the box) it's a nice break from the PC.

I like the training modules and how you can specialise.

I do love the one shot your dead approach though.

Also the more honour you build the more weapons become availible.

Its like all of them.. you only find the tactical approach if you hunt for it; not on open servers. A decent squad/clan is necessary. You can hardly blame the kids - its a free game and most play it as they would the games they are used to like Quake 3 and Counter-strike. tactics or not they are usually very good at it! WW2OL and (rarely) Joint Operations are the only games where such things tend to happen without prior planning.

I really enjoy AA actually, it and SWAT 4 are the only shooters I play online. Neither is "realistic" as such, but both are more so than anything else out there.

Havn't played Strike Fighters (or Wings over Vietnam).

Have you looked at thread Free strategy games?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
