Are casualties supposed to be this out of whack?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Are casualties supposed to be this out of whack?

168,000 Austrians met my force of 71,000 French, an army less then half their size, and i routed them from the field inflicting 26,000 casualties, taking 49,000 prisoners, and losing only 7,000 of my own men!

What gives? It's on normal difficulty

It's possible--much of it depends on morale, upgrades, and training. The French can be a formidable foe.

I guess you weren't in Quick battle right? Quick battle seems to be the only "fair" way to play against the AI. Once I get them into Detailed Combat they don't have a chance. I don't think I've ever lost a detailed combat against the AI, no matter the odds - and the casualties are always rediculously stacked in my favour.

I've lost a few battles against the AI French - but only early in the game before training kicks in, and outnumbered.

Speaking of casualties - I wish I had a screenshot of last nights big battle. 130,000 Russians against 120,000 French, who reinforced from a neighboring province (not sure how much additionally reinforced).

After a loooonng battle, the French finally broke, and casualties were 90,000 dead French against 16,000 Russians. I had a battery of 4 Artillery (2 heavy, 2 regular) that must have slaughtered 50,000 French by themselves.

Sometimes French morale can work against them. They just kept coming, and terrain and use of my cavalry just funneled them into a meat-grinder. Once they shattered, my cavalry had a field day with pursuit.

The highlight of the battle was when a Heavy Artillery volley butchered over half of the vaunted French Guard in a single shot [:'(]

Oh, just for clarity...I have lost a number of campaigns (thank goodness, otherwise this would sure get boring).

Winning most detailed battles hasn't meant campaign victory for me all the time. Recently, after fighting the numerically superior French to a bloody standstill in central Europe, Prussia and Turkey DoW'd me - it was ugly...I fought on but finally was down to less than 100,000 troops in the field, and the French were re-grouping for more. I held Moscow but something like 6 or 7 provinces had fell, out of money, morale in the toilet...I surrendered and never got back to the top of the Glory heap...
