guerrillas

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

guerrillas

I don't know if other countries get guerillas but Spain certainly does and the game handles them completely wrong.

First, guerillas should ONLY be produced in a HOME COUNTRY PROVINCE.

Second, guerillas should ONLY be produced when the country is at war.

Third, guerillas should ONLY be produced in a province that currently contains an enemy corps. (The production should be random AND FREE but MUST reduce the province population by at LEAST one factor - I suggest two. When a province population reaches 1 or 2 then that province CANNOT PRODUCE ANY MORE guerillas)

Fourth, guerilas SHOULD NEVER leave the home country provinces.

Fifth, guerrilas should always move try to move to a Home country province containing enemy units.

Sixth, guerillas should be 'removed' when the country is no longer at war OR still at war but enemy units are no longer in Home country provinces. The provinces should 'reabsorb' the guerillas and add 1 to their population - zero if already maxed.

Seventh, guerillas can never join friendly corps.

Eight, guerillas can NEVER be in line and should actually ALWAYS be disordered. Their main function was cutting supply and forcing any 'aggressor to protect his LOC and garrison cities.

Whatever action you take, YOU have to fix the problem with guerillas running all over the map of Europe! This is just so ridiculous.

Again gdp, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is part of the game design. Each country can build irregular units. They are low morale and cannot deploy into line formation. Certain types of irregular units (cossacks and guerilla's i believe) can easily infiltrate other countries. I have not seen it with Spain, but when at war with Russia cossacks pop up all over your country dispruting your economy. I chase them and destroy them with a full corps. A division or two is not enough to engage them. Usually takes a corps.

It sounds like you are fighting the game instead of playing it. Many of these issues have already been discussed and debated. Eric and his team have cleaned up a lot of bugs and added or fixed items brought to their attention by customers on these forumns. Demanding that things be changed is probably not going to get you the desired response you seek. Especially when the issues have already been debated and explained.

Relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the game. It is awesome.

Actually I agree with gdpsnake guerillas should stay in their own HOME country. If there was an easy way to patch that sort of change in, I'd be all for it.

I've seen a few Spanish guerillas wandering Austria in one game; they got created in a ceded Austria that got occupied I guess and then got pushed around central Europe by various combats and retreats. They should not be produced in ceded provinces IMO, and should be eliminated if forced out of their own HOME country provinces.

Cossacks are an entirely different story, however, and they are obviously fine as is.

Tex,
I have no problem with countries being able to have a few irregular units.

Guerillas are not irregular units - they are a special type of unit for defending the homeland when invaded.

I think only Turkey and Spain have guerillas - not seen them anywhere else.

Guerillas should never leave the home country. I challenge you to find any material on the period where large bands of poorly armed guerilla armies (and I've seen over 20 Spanish guerillas in France - 200,000 men!) invaded another country. The whole point of guerillas in any Napoleonic period game I've seen or played is to make Spain very difficult to control and realistically represent the problems France had in subjugating the country. While some Spanish 'mobs' did appear on a few battlefields, their presence was more of a nuisance for their allies than the enemy.

I've also seen over 25 cossack units created by Russia - 250,000 cossacks? Give me a break, it's out of control.

The game needs to be fixed so that guerillas can't leave the home country and there should be a limit on the production of guerillas and irregular units.

I have had Spainish guerrillas running around France when Spain is an ally. Also, while cossacks did cross borders, I don't think that they tended to operate in France when the main Russian army was in Austria. I would submit that cossacks tended to stay relatively close to the main army and did not operate hundreds of miles away.

gdp,

Your point is well spoken and I understand it. I think that stating it in just such away will get you a better repsonse than demanding that the game be fixed NOW.

You and several others have pointed out the historical inaccuracy of guerrilla's and cossacks operating in this game. But this is a game not a simulation. If I am playing Russia and want to build an army of 300,000 cossacks I should be allowed to do this. If I as Spain want an all guerilla army then I should be able to. That is the variable in playing the game. I want to be able to play a game with the possiblity of changing history and historical outcomes. If you already know what the outcome is going to be then why play? I have been playing for several months straight and have not seen massive armies of guerillas and cossacks. And if I did I;d be pleased as punch because that army is not going to be effective against a higher morale, mixed unit army.

I think some of you get so caught up in the game not being exactly historically accurate that you miss all the stuff that is accurate and you also miss the all the fun that is the game. If it bothers you that much then send a calm rational explanation to the developer and see if the agrees to change it. Otherwise youo have to decide if it is going to ruin it so much for you that you don't play it. Everyone has their opinions as to what is accurate or not. Knowing he can't please everybody the developer has to draw the line at some point and say this is the game.

I defy you find another game of this scale and detail that is done better.
