ships floating over land

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

ships floating over land

Post by gdpsnake »

I have the latest version and I'm still seeing ships moving over land provinces. I even captured some Austrian frigates in Tyrolia and Linz. Must be those big inland oceans......

BTW, I couldn't move my captured ships to the coast and had to burn them....

I still run into this problem with 1.2.16 too, though it doesn't seem to be as common as in 1.2.14.

What I would really appreciate is some way to disband unwanted divisions and ships, preferably with the soldiers/marines going back into the draft pool. This would take care of geurillas and other units that can add up and waste resources too.

I think they are refering to the occaisions when when ships appear in landlocked provinces, eg Switzerland, rather than coastal provinces with ships and fleets in harbour.

No. They found his Galleon in Turkey. There was too much rain to finish the Man O' War, as the canon were submerged.[:D]

[:)] You'll love the feel of this game btw - I'm going to study it over my Xmas holidays.

Really not since Imperialism 2 has there been a game of such diplomatic scope. It's always the economic interface that stumps me in these empire games!

I now have some captured frigates in Vienna, exactly the same as gdpsnake.
Also, the events reporting leaves a lot to be desired, I have huge battles and they don't even show up! So then, because you know it's unreliable, the report becomes almost useless. Who knows whether it's telling you the right things?

This is a truly awesome game, but these bugs make it very frustrating. Everything's going fine, you've invested all this time, Austria's about to surrender, and half the fleet shows up somewhere in the alps! It really makes it hard to take seriously.
Furthermore, Carthage must be destroyed.

It's the Danube, right? I get there in the end.

Do you only have disjointed events reports when you savegame during detailed battles, or all the time?

Personally, if I just allow the turn to run, my reports are always complete. There was a problem under v1.0 that if too much happened there was not enough space assigned to record all events, but this has now been patched.

We would still like to know when this is happening. Any relevant information would be welcome--what were you doing when you noticed it; can you provide a screen shot; was a port recently taken; were any provinces set to produce ships; etc.

One suspected explanation, for example, is that this happens when a province produces a ship, but its port is taken that turn.

I'm planning on doing the same. I just hope the offical patch is released by then.[:'(]

Mr. Z,
I see it happening with Austria in this game. Apparently, Austria 'attaches' ships to Army and Corps and then moves the armies/corps to an "inland" province and they either 'detach' or get left behind in a battle. I saw Austrian ships in Linz, Tyrolia, and other inland provinces.

I see the same problem with Swedish, English and Spanish ships but fortunately, there are few 'inland' provinces to lose the ships in.

The problem seems to occur when a country has no fleet counters, loses them in battle or does not create any.

Interestingly, you can capture the ships after land combat but can't move them out of the inland provinces. I tried attaching them to my Corps - I could - but they stayed behind when the ZCorps moved.

Perhaps the solution is to make it impossible for ships to attach to a corps or army.

Yeah, that should be the design. So, it sounds like maybe what's happening is:

1) fleet counter is destroyed
2) ship is left stranded (or is built in province?)
3) it gets attached to an army/corps.

Eric, try attaching ships to armies & corps and see what happens--thought we got rid of this. I'll test it later myself.
