Any airplane artists looking for work

Post by Jaypea »

I am working on a 1926 scenario mod with increased allied/Jap airpower (army/navy). It is my conjecture that with the start of the war in 1926, air power gets more funding than historical which drastically increases the pace of aircraft development. Thus allowing later year air plane designs to reach the war front earlier than historical.

I have been researching the 1930 - 1935 aircraft designs (army/navy fighters, Torpedo planes, dive bombers, level bombers & patrol aircraft) and moving them back to the 1927-1930 time frame (while keeping them in their historical order of arrival - but not the same date). I have also added two classes of aircraft carrier for the Japanese (Hiryu and Soryu) - both as fleet class CV's. For the US she gets Ranger class CV's. These arrive every 6 -18 months in the game. A total of six for each side. With level bombers on the early CV's upgrading to dive bombers by 1930.

If anyone is interested in doing the new plane art for this scenario, I would be happy to work together with them on the mod.

Thanks all

Hi guys,
Nice art work on the aircraft. When they are finished how hard will it be to input them into the game?

If you're talking about the art (as I assume you are) that'll require a bit of strategic cut and pasting, but once you get used to it, it's not that difficult.

I want to check to make sure I got these correct -

1. Kawasaki Type 92 (Army Fighter) - looks great!
2. Not sure but is this a AICHI D1A2?
3. Not sure what this is?
4. Nakajima Type 91 (Army Fighter) - Fantastic!
5. Nakajima A4N1 (Naval fighter) - Cool!
6. Mitsubishi Ki-1 (LB) - Nice!
7. Mitsubishi Ki-2 (LB) - Nice
8. Dornier Do J II Wal (Patrol) --> Japanese
9. Dornier Do J II Wal (Patrol) --> Allied

For Japanese that leaves -->
- A2N1 (fighter) or I can just use #5
- Mitsubishi B2M1 (Torpedo Bomber)

- Mistsubishi Ki –20 (Heavy bomber)

Let me know if thats OK.

As production is nearing completion a couple of questions
1. In your mod have you allocated Bit Map numbers to aircraft yet
2. Depending on answer to above are you happy to cut and paste into the three air panels and workout you your own bit map allocation
3 If not I can do that for you and provide bitmap XXX = aircraft x which leads to.. do any of the new aircraft have carrier capabilty and if so which ones as they have to go into specific slot numbers as per manual
4 are you replacing any existing aircraft with any of the new ones

First, just thanks for all your help. Second see my answers -

As production is nearing completion a couple of questions
1. In your mod have you allocated Bit Map numbers to aircraft yet - YES, ACTUALLY ALL PLANE SIDES ARE IN GAME ALREADY

2. Depending on answer to above are you happy to cut and paste into the three air panels and workout you your own bit map allocation - SIDES DONE THESE ARE PRETTY EASY TO CUT & PASTE, BUT TOPS SEEM HARDER WITH OUT GRID BUT CAN MANAGE VIA X,Y COORDINATES. BIG QUESTION HOW DO I DO THE ALPHA TOPS?????

3 If not I can do that for you and provide bitmap XXX = aircraft x which leads to.. do any of the new aircraft have carrier capabilty and if so which ones as they have to go into specific slot numbers as per manual --> ALL CARRIER CAPABLE HAVE BEEN FIT INTO PROPER SLOTS - THANK YOU FOR OFFERING

4 are you replacing any existing aircraft with any of the new ones --> ALL PLANES HAVE BEEN ADDED WITHOUT LOSING ANY OF THE ORIGINALS (I THINK - BUT PRETTY SURE)

Cobra Aus

Per #2 --> How do I generate the alpha (black/white) versions of the plane tops to fill in the Alpha top bit maps???? I am using paint so I was not able to convert to pure black/white. Can you help? ALso, is there an easier way to do the plane tops other than the X,Y coordinates?

Also, were you able to do the GREAT LAKES TBG-1? I see the BG-1 Dive bomber but not #3 from my original list. Do you need some more pictures? Let me know.

Thanks again

ok dont worry alpha art is done when you do the top art. all the tops I have done have aplha tops also
to paste top art and alpha is by eye and judgment with fingers crossed and test. the alpha has to be in same location as top - have both the top art sheet and the aplha sheet open in art program + if paint is the only art program download GIMP freeware will help. most of the modders are using commercial art packages such as PSPro and Photoshop

Yes 6th row 2nd plane after exstensive search no art only photos but if you compare the Grumman and the Great Lakes for our use the main differance is the engine cowling
so I use the Grumman art and reworked the colors and cowling

red letter post 1000 + 1 ye ha
need answer for 3 questions 3 and four + I had a sudden thought based on on you question
are you using the art from the sample panel I put up if so DONT it is only a JPEG not suitable for using you lose a lot of clarity and have to much noise in the art

when all art is finnished I will E-Mail proper BMP files to you

--> OK on JPEG's didn't realize that. But at least I have created place holders for the new aircraft art and tested their appearence [:D]. I will cut and paste the bmp file into place once you send it to me.

--> I have done one successful top with MS paint as a test and it worked well. I moved a plane from WITP into WPO (that dutch torpedo plane thingy --> which was first developed in the 20's!) looks nice.

Do you have any other questions?

Let me know
Thanks
