Can anybody answer these?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Can anybody answer these?

Post by gdpsnake »

Elvas surrendered to me. Then Portugal surrendered to me. Portugal turned blue and is mine but Elvas remains crosshatched under England?

In the diplomacy phase, the other countries are making agreements to liberate my conquered provinces?

How do you have any diplomacy with the US?

AI is pulling a fast one by continualy declaring war on Prussia and Sweden (down to only the capitol provinces and never recover) and immediately getting their surrender. They don't get anything but it keeps improving their National morale.

I can't DOW Russia or Austria even though I've never been to war with Russia, not with Austria since 1792, and I have NO treaties with anyone.

My army was destroyed by attrition in Gibralter but 20K should have been able to forage and I only had 21K in the army.

1) Yep, I've seen your Portugal situation before, but in a different context (Piedmont). You can do no more than "occupy" Elvas for the time being. You can (L)iberate Portugal; if you do that Elvas will become British Controlled (I *think*...this is based on my past observations). Strange but true.

2) I suppose they could do that...it's already been discussed over on the Protectorate Problems thread on how nations can (L)iberate places someone else has technically conquered. Strange but true.

3) You can't really talk to the US, or to any of the national revolts; they have no provinces you can click on.

4) They should only be able to do that every 3/9/18 months, depending on what sort of peace they came to???

5) Sometimes it rains and snows in a province and this lower the support number.

Yes,
But according to the threads, Elvas is 'part of Portugal' and when Portugal surrenders (the capitol of the multi-province) then Elvas should go to because I occupy it. It would only be/remain crosshatched if someone else occupied it.

No, the AI is declaring war a lot more frequently.

It was not raining or snowing in Gibralter.

You didn't mention why I can't declare war on Russia or Austria?

Are Russia and Austria at war with anyone you are at war with? The game engine does not allow perfect three-sided (or more) wars; ie, A at war with B & C, B at war with A & C, and C at war with A & B. Logical, as it could create a perfect three way battle in a province...and the game just can't handle that...so it won't let you DOW yourself into a forbidden "war triangle." So...maybe that's whats going on.

Oh by the way...I stumbled across a way to conduct diplomacy with the US! So I misspoke earlier.

The trick is to use the main Diplomacy screen. Scroll down to the US (or any country or even national revolt!) and then left click on the name "United States." It'll then bring up your usual allowed diplomacy options, for example, if at peace with the US you'll be able to Declare War, Surprise Attack, or Subsidy.

I guess there could be some complicated 3-way diplomacy thing going on, but it might have been something else. My first question is, was Portugal controlled (either a protectorate, or conquered) by England? It sounds like it.

If so, then my next question is, did you actually conquer Elvas? I don't mean occupying it--that would have given it the cross-hatching. I mean conquered--it would have changed colors if you had. What did Elvas look like before you conquered Portugal? Changed color, cross-hatching, or neither?

Mr Z,
As I remember, Portugal and Elvas were solid red (meaning England had conquered them?)
I attacked Elvas first and it surrendered to me becoming a crosshatched in red province. The flag said England with a small Portugal flag. So far so good.
Next, I attacked Lisbon and it surrendered to me. Lisbon became solid blue but Elvas remained red crosshatched for England.
I'm sure the way it should work since Elvas is part of Portugal and was occupied by me when Portugal fell, that both should have turned solid blue - correct?

Jim,
I'll look at the diplomacy - must be some weird triangle war.
I'll try the US thing too thanks.
