RE: Matrix Game of the Year
If 'best' equates with 'most played', then:
1. Titans of Steel
2. Korsun Pocket
3. War in the Pacific

RE: Matrix Game of the Year
I'd love to try Tin Soldiers but alas, my holiday budget is so far gone that I heard astronomers saw it somewhere around Jupiter.
RE: Matrix Game of the Year
Tin Soldiers is just the ultimate "different" experience in wargaming. It's like playing with minatures. And when/if they ever really build a huge campaign game out of this engine it will be one of the best to play. Oh and also a "random map generator/random army generator.

Are you counting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes as each being worth one vote? Or using some weighting scheme?

As my previous comments weren't counted as "votes", here's the formal one for 2005, then.
1. Crown of Glory
2. Tin Soldiers: Caesar
3. FPG (which I forgot last time).
I'm pretty depressed by the showing so far for TS, actually. I guess the poll shows mostly just which sold best; TS:C is a MUCH (if totally different) better game than GGWaW (in my very humble opinion, obviously).

Hmmmmm......... one Grand Dame of wargaming seems to have been missed..
#1. Steel Panthers World at War Generals Edition
#2. HTTR
#3. Battles In Normandy
#4. Battles in Italy
I rank BiN over BII as I think it was a larger leap from Korsun Pocket than BII was over BiN.

RE: Matrix Game of the Year
If it's not too late, I offer a "Game of the Year" vote to Shaun Sullivan's "Pure Sim Baseball". This was a risk taken by both Shaun & Dave Heath, since Matrix is primarily known as a wargaming company, BUT the risk is paying off. Pure Sim is steadily climbing up the ranks in Baseball Text-Based Sims, and as far as THIS fan is concerned, deserves the top spot in that category.

Interesting point is that a lot of the top choices are newly released games (within the last year) so I guess this proves Matrix is on the right track. One notable exception is BII but I would imagine the most active players hang out in the Run5 Forum.
I suppose the award should really go to Crown of Glory as it is new and ran WitP close. Never played COG - maybe I should try it.
Looking forward to some new titles being released in 2006.
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you all
