Oh yes, the P-63, refurbished as a training aircraft & renamed RP-63A, surnamed Pinball because "over 100 microphones were installed behind the armored panels and rigged to indicate hits on a counter in the cockpit. A red light replaced the muzzle of the 37 mm cannon in the propeller spinner and was to flash each time the plane was hit by a frangible bullet." The Bell P-63C KingCobra had a 1500hp engine which could be boosted to 1800hp with water injection and armor plate increased to ninety kilograms. Although extensively used by Russia, the P-63 did not see combat service with the USAAF. One interesting postwar development of the P-63 was as a manned flying target for gunnery practice. The plane was covered with over one thousand (1,000) kg of armor plate and fitted with sensors that would detect hits. Special frangible rounds were developed that would disintegrate upon impact. The nickname for the aircraft was 'Pinball'.
