They don't do they? I mean, when your base gets taken over, they don't make a last minute rush to fly the hell out of there, do they?

It hasn't been my experience. If you don't anticipate somewhat the fall of your base you'll loose all your planes. That's one of the risks of keeping planes at a base under siege.

I think the way it works is that non-Dutch Allied planes clone themselves prior to being destroyed on the base. The clones fly off into the Twilight Zone and appear as reinforcements 360 days after the fall of the base.
