Well, here's the worst version of the Zero - Japan shouldn't have tried to mass produce these...[8|][:D] Never having played Japan, i'm not sure they are in WITP.

So that is why bombardments against airfields are so dramatic! lol

For the purpose of the game and the mod. The Japanese players will have a drastic training regiment for their pilots. So what happens if you were able to put those pilots in good planes?

First if you can't get a Carrier in use by end of 42 it is nearly useless - mid 43 begins the death of IJN carriers - the US planes are just too superior to let the carriers out of port.

Second, I don't think anyone could convince the IJN to scrap the Yamato design. They wanted (and got) the biggest, baddest warship ever made - it was a point of national pride ... unfortunately they built it in a time where aircraft rule the seas and they were nearly useless.

Thirdly, with the IJN's reliance on CVs as a strike platform (even if defensive) I don't see how they misses the boat on adequate AAA protection from escort ships - mainly Destroyers and Cruisers. In my opinion they completely missed the boat in this field and tried to catchup the entire war - and never could. A single US CV has the AAA firepower of several IJN capital ships.. and I'm not even adding in the fighter CAP.

Fourthly (is that even a word ?), the IJN missed ASW drastically. And for a nation that has to ship everything (and I do mean everything) I am surprised they missed the boat on this important factor. One thing may be their reliance on the crappy US torpedo never becoming a threat - but someone had to know that this would change. They also had to know that the US had a sizable sub force in the pacific that would instantly turned against their shipping.

There are many other places where Japan missed the boat - like aircraft design -lack of radios, lack of armor for pilots, their slowness in changing tactics to deal with Zoom & Boom tactics (can't remember what it is actualy called), lack of heavy bombers, etc... As you can see there are lots of places Japan missed the boat - a lot of their mistakes were due to their culture and they way they thought everyone should fight - a lot of nations have done that in the past (England in the US Revolutionary War.. The US in Vietnam)

For changing ship production I would dump all the CVs that arrive after 42 and favor ASW DDs and AAA DDs. Throw in a some AAA CLs and a couple CAs and there you go.

If you go into merchant shipping I would increase the number of tankers built - as they knew they needed oil - hence the whole reason for war. IJN has enough AKs and APs for the entire war at game's start and don't need any more of them. Although, if you could ship oil in AKs (in barrels like you do fuel) you don't even need more Tankers.

More DDs are needed by Japan. In 1941 it does not make sense to axe the Yamato class, but earlier if they switch the resources to CA/DD/CV that would be better.

I suspect the Bushido mentality had a lot to do with that one, assuming that they would always be on the offensive, pretty much like the French in WWI.

My comment on the Yamato class was to never even start them but build other ships instead. 2 CVs and some DD escorts should have been very possible.

Given the fact that the Japanese still hunt Bluefin Tuna with modern ASW tech and dispense dirty American schoolgirl's panties from vending machines, all to satisfy weird sexual habits by Ziabatsu owners and the like, what makes anyone think that the Japanese military would have halted production on the huge penis extensions called the Yamatos in favour of more sensible stuff?[&:]

I'm thinking of adding the smaller CLAA which I did the art for. The massive 12 turret monster would probably be going overboard but the 6 turret one would be a little less the size of an Atanta CLAA, basically a DD leader and would take up fewer resources.
Gary, sounds to me like you been cuffin' the carrot again.

Last I saw, you called those scows you drew something like "German AA barges." Now, they're destroyer leaders. Before long, they'll be flying fighters for air cover.

Remember, anything that floats can be sunk. Unless in your fantasy world (where there are no apparent limits), the IJN is a "woden fleat" that floats no matter how much damage it takes (sort of like the "Texas Squaredance Brassiere" that stays up no matter how frantic the fiddling gets).

They're not ... and Brady's mighty p1ssed. This is one of the "woden aer fleat" planes (flown by hily traned piolets) left out of the game. The Japanese had 3,000,000 tons of these that should have been included to offset the advantage ahistorically given to the Allies in trained ground troops...
