Unit detail in WIF - ships

I have never played WIF but I was wondering...

Are all the ships going to be historical like
Akagi, Kaga or will it be CV1, CV2?

Also will all ship classes be detailed?

CV, CVL, BB, BC, CA and a few other ship types are portrayed individually and by name (Akagi, Independance, Queen Elisabeth, Strasbourg, Zara...). Their values are also individual (per ship, so ships within a particular class with allmost always differ at least slightly). Those values will also be more or less realistic (Essex class carriers being better then Yorktown class etc.).

I'm not up to date on all the extensions, but iirc Cruisers in Flames introduced individual light cruisers (CL). Convoys in Flames I believe introduced destroyers in some form (but no clue how they work...).

P.S.: Originally (WiF classic and older) cruisers and smaller ships were eitehr portrayed as multiple ships per counter (the counter named after one of them) or not included at all as counters.

Convoys in Flames add a new ship type, the ASW, to include the effect of Destroyers and Corvettes. ASWs that have an air component model the Escort Carriers. If using Ships in Flames, you pick a CVP that can fit the class. ASW move like convoys and are ignored for regular combat. Capital ships no longer add to sub combat and have an ASW value of zero. Certain air units may be converted to Sub Hunters. The Surface Raiders (Auxillary Cruisers) are added as well. They are tougher to intercept and have a limited ability to hide in neutral ports.

Later war anti-sub advances are shown with red and pink circled combat factors. These allow enhanced pre-ASW combat sub hunting. Later submarines can avoid this pre-combat fire phase to a better extent. The Walther Sub can avoid completely and break off after any round of combat.

All in all a very good addition to detail the Battle of the North Atlantic. Of course this adds a "little time" [;)] to the game.
