Sqn Exp. on Escort CVs

Post by Cutman »

I do not know if this is historical or not, but I started one of my first PBEM with US and it was the 43 June - 46 scenario. I normally play IJN. The Sqns that where on the CVEs that are in San Fran have 25-26 exp. There is at least 4-5 sqns like this. This was at the start. Is this how bad these sqns really where?

Those units are VR Reserve/replacement units. That CVE is meant to follow around teh Essex Fleet carriers and resupply aircraft/pilots to the Fighter squadrons. I recommend training those pilots before you use them. At least to 55 EXP, if not more.

Use them and let them all die! You get good replacement pilots as US and so many you don´t have to care about them. Sending them into death is unrealistic but that´s how the game goes...

This is one of the stupidest parts of the game. Send the air unit to rear area land for training with no replacement option chosen. You may want to load the CVE with Marines unit, which is pretty ahistorical.

if they´re for training in the rear area they can get to max 50 exp. and it will take a year. If you don´t have a place for combat training you can´t use them. If they die you get trained pilots - more than you can use...

I didn't think it made any difference what the pilots experience was. The aircraft are used to replenish the combat air unitz on board CVs and CVLs, the pilots of the replenishment CVEs just ferry them. Has anyone seen where both aircraft and pilots are transfered?

The last time I played you got the crummy pilot from the training squadrons.

Yes. They seem useless [:)] Just park the CVEs somewhere (like San Diego or Vancouver) and forget about them.

Popping back to a base with 20K supplies to recover planes the usual way should not slow the US down much anyway. Nerffing your squadrons with a bunch of 40s Experience guys will.

Yeh, I do have a training area just in DEI North of Darwin. I will try to use them there. Another question. Has anyone ever tried the later scenarios? Having zero replacement aircraft and most of the sqns at 50-75 percent at start changes your thinking drmatically.

Yes the pilots transferred as well if the squadron needed replacements.

i've sat these CVEs in a TF in a rear area base and set to 100% training - in 2 weeks their av exp went from 35 to 40.

Better yet before starting a scenario, go into the editor and reset their experince to the level in the manual for the time they arrive in game.
