Hmmm, interesting

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Hmmm, interesting

Post by Hard Sarge »

Well the basic's

I ma French starting in 1892, nice long wars, good battles, but some backstabbing, cause me to get mean, and I took out Prussia and then Aus with Total wars (Aus lost 6 Provinces in one turn, should of been more, but Turkey took two)

Decided, it was time to make a move vs England, move some troops to the coast and then it is time to move the fleet out of harbor (where they been hiding for years !)

been seeing nothing but a small fleet sitting in the channel, so was hopeing to catch it by surprise and then sneak land a Army before the English woke up

which....

I won the sea battle, but that allowed me to see what was in London

OOOPS

by my count, over 500,000 Troops are sitting there, not counting the City Troops

now, I think I can beat any number of troops, if I can get my troops ashore, but think I can only land one Army or corp with my one Troop ship

so the hassle now is, do I wait for my Troopships to build, or do I gamble and try to land one Corp
(will try and slip the Med Fleet up, if so, I think 2 Corps can win)

hmmmmmm

oh, it is 1803, Sweden is all but out, Aus and Prussia are, Turkey and Spain are more then healhty, but both are at war with England also, Russia is crushed, but trying

any ideas ?

Opps, guess this should of went to the war room, but I wanted some ideas

over all, I am not the slow and calm type of person, so I went for it once the Med fleet made it into the channel

was able to load one Corps of some 59,000 troops into one fleet, loaded another Corps and some Div's into the 2nd fleet and set sail

seen I may have some movement left over, so returned to port and loaded up another Army and some more Div's to act as back up

you ever heard of the statement, the best laid plans ?

well...

one Corps landed, the fleet then returned to harbor and took the rest of the day off
(what I want to know is what happened to the 2nd fleet, it sailed, and then returned, but for got to drop off any Troops !!!!!! [:-])

Imagine my surprise when the combat screen came up asking what I wanted to do

638,925 English troops wished to battle my 59,221 Poles

the commander on the spot, picked a good battle field, good lines of fire, with lots of blocking lines

the odd part, is the English while in column were able to do more damage then my troops while in line ? (then again, I had to split all of my Div's, so maybe I was only getting half fire)

had a strange attack show up, a Cav unit seemed to charge one of my guns, but since it was covered, it couldn't charge, then it decided to just open fire instead, bad idea

I was even able to sneak my Ammo supply inside of my defensive circle

that is very early in the battle, most of the troops are split but not in place yet, one of the first things that happened, was I took out one of the garrison troops that was right inside of my lines

of course, I set up a good chuck of my firepower faceing the south, but the English wanted to flank me and the main battle was to the right of my line

the HARDest part of the battle was keeping my troops back and trying to keep a reserve

I was able to move my 3rd Arty into the city, but the Enemy closed to fast, so I was not able to get that part of the flank set up

over and over, I was able to get good vollies off, and the English took it on the chin and kept on closing

as you can see, there are only 7 Inf groups showing on the map, the 8th was routed by gunfire early on, made a mess out of my line as you can see

I didn't expect them to be of help, so had the General come back to the battle, instead of trying to rally the troops

soon two more groups begin to break, but each time, the troops to there sides were able to drive off the British

being able to resupply during this battle was key !

just before nightfall, the enemy started to break, and just in time, the routed unit came back into action, which was very good, as that was the hole in my line

with night fall, the English gave up and left the field of battle, I stayed in place

of course, I was then shocked to see another battle pop up

149,998 English, vs my 51,914 Pissed off Poles

this battle field was not as good, but I did have a small lake, flanked by some heavy trees to the north and a small city to the south, so I did not need to protect my back side

I got 2 Arty batteries to the lake side, and then sent a Inf Div to the city, but they drew most of the enemy fire, so they had to back up into the city and wait

the 3rd Arty, moved up between the trees and found a nice line of fire across the back of the lake, and then waited for enemy to close up

after the pounding the English took in the first battle, they did not have the staying power to stick around long

28,158 English went down

end of day

my 50,000 Poles are ashore and holding strong

my prision camp is larger then my combat camp, I have 7 Divs landed, I have 8 Div's POWs

Ahhh, shhhhh !

thanks

(overall, good, but slower then I would of liked)

hehe

how is your front going ???? [:-]

2nd month

no troops land before the English come back

I set my troops to starve the city, as I figured I would of lost half of my troops to an attack

238,000 English show up, my 50,000 are starting to get tired

this one was pretty up and down, they came in far enough away, I was able to set up my line, set my protection, spilt a Div to protect my backside, and went to town

I told Eric, that I thought it may be a mistake to change the way the AI used the Cav to attack, this battle and the first battle, the AI had a chance to win, but it wouldn't make the mad dashes it needed to break the line, in a even fight, it is good that the AI does not make the rushes it used to, but when it outnumbers you, it should

another 27,000 English losses

by the end of the month, another Corps lands, I am here to stay now

hehe

I got another 100,000 plus set to land this month, plan to cut the island in half, and then drive the English into the sea, if they don't give up first

there are down to a morale of 9 now, not a bad two months, they were at 1000

I got a Corps of 49,000 and another one of 51,000, I got 105,000 POW's

the Death Blow

the two fleets are working overtime to get as many troops ashore as they can

129,428 English Troops attack, 140,277 defend

this should be a simple fight, but terrain and weather made it a ruff one

but in the long run, it made the fight longer then it should of been, and damage was heavy

37,000 English go down, and 7 Div's are taken POW's

after the battle, the ships are busy and the next round is over before it began

76,811 English troops march in to battle 237,156 French

I tired to clear out a fort on my flank, which may of been a mistake, most of my losses came from this fort

29,000 English go down, and 8 Div's are taken POW

15 POW's for the month, not bad (5 die)

over all, have taken 24 living POW's since I have landed

it is all over but the shouting now

139,136 English come to play this month, they are met by 241,948 French

the battle field ended up being a trap, the English were shot to peices

49,285 Enlish fell

a -1250 point battle

and that was all she wrote

England give up the fight

my troops were returned back to the friendly lands of there birth (well, those born in France that is)

and Spain decides to go to war with me !!!!!!

oh well, the road to Empire is never easy

only complaint over these battles, which were monsters, is no leaders were made, but over all, I can not complain, I have done very well with gaining new Leaders in this game

It's the larger battles that make me wish we could set up our armies or have some sort of grand tactical plan.

I'm getting tired of having all my troops clumped up together in one mass and having to move the ones in the center first. I can't even make a battle line before I'm hit by cavalry.

Roger

depends on the random set up and all, but later on, once some of the upgrades to Cav are gotten, it can be HARD to start up far enough away with out being hit

odd though, ever notice that they are set up close enough to hit you, but you are never set up close enough to them ?????

Yup, happens all the time. And when we are close, and it's my turn, I usually have swamp, mountains, or a huge forest in the way, so I can't charge them after movement anyways.

I'd like to reduce the amount of swamps on the detailed maps, and get rid of the fortresses and garrisons completely.

Let us fight the other army without having some garrison run up from behind and shoot hell out of our supplies and artillery.

LOL
it is a lot better now then before, we had Forts that could do 3-5000 kills with a single shot !!!

of course, at times, you ended up with the whole enemy army being wasted trying to take out a Fort, before you could close enough to open fire

I'm tending to agreement with this Hard Sarge. I might make some other calculation to help the AI figure out whether it should mad-dash with cavalry or not.

Carnifex, starvation can refer to units' losing strength because of forage, and this can happen even when there is "plenty of food" for the population factors of a nation. (Starvation can also refer to not having enough food for your population factors.)

ahhh Crud, I remember seeing the details on this, now if i can remember enough of it to make it make sense when I try to write it

okay lets try it like this

you need say 200 food to feed your Pop and your 250 Divs (just throwing numbers out)

you only have 190 to eat, so you get the Staveing statement posted, then the battles begin, and you get pounded, you lose 3 Div's to losses and 5 Div's surrender, fight another battle and you lose another 3 Div's to surrender

now you no longer have 250 Div's to feed, you got 239, which may only need 175 food to feed them, now you have lots of extra food and a new statement is made

which I believe there are phases and what not where all this is figured

and or

you have a large Pop Province or two that are in battle, they are not sending food to the Cap, so they are just a drain on your food suppply, end of turn, they have been captured, now they are now longer a drain on your food, your total Pop has gone down, and the amount needed to feed your people has dropped
